Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Central Plant Supervisor, oversee major repairs and new installations on plumbing systems, provide direction to Journeyman Plumbers, and maintain the departmental apprentice program.
Compensation & HoursStarting Wage: $41.10 – $49.32 per hour (negotiable based on education and experience). Full‑time, 1st Shift, Monday–Friday, 7 am–3 pm.
Key Responsibilities- Technical mentor for the Tribal Member Plumbing Apprentice program.
- Conduct biweekly meetings with plumbing apprentices.
- Plan, evaluate, and direct all journeyman and apprentice plumbing work.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable plumbing and building codes.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining a comprehensive plumbing performance‑management program.
- Prioritize daily work orders and coordinate with Facilities Management, Planning, and Tribal Council.
- Implement training on new and existing technologies.
- Maintain a craftsman‑like standard of work.
- Assist budget development, utility usage analysis, and infrastructure modifications to identify cost‑saving strategies.
- Develop plumbing design and engineering evaluation documents for projects.
- Ensure compliance with plumbing safety training and safety gear requirements.
- Co‑ordinate plumbing needs of Tribal Operations with the Utilities Director.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing problems that arise.
- Collaborate on proposals related to plumbing needs, rebate programs, and new equipment installations.
- Coordinate utility repairs that may affect domestic water or sanitary sewer systems.
- Locate underground plumbing infrastructure and manage Miss Dig contacts as needed.
- Manage industrial‑level plumbing systems, including loop systems, large‑pipe repairs, chilled water systems, RPZ repairs, and domestic water piping.
- Assist in compliance with a formal Water Management plan.
- Maintain the highest quality of plumbing knowledge for SECR and Tribal Operations.
- Implement improvement projects for the maintenance program.
- Inspect apprentice work to ensure compliance with State of Michigan protocol for Journeyman advancement.
- Use State of Michigan Plumber license to apply for permit‑related work as directed.
- Document work via logbooks, reports, and apprentice hour logs.
- Familiarize with State and Federal codes, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and GHS procedures.
- Interact with mechanical contractors as required.
- Follow SECR Hospitality Rules with internal and external guests.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
- Note:
Duties are subject to change based on organizational needs.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- At least six years of experience as a licensed plumber (apprentice, journeyman, or master).
- Must pass a background check.
- Current Michigan Master Plumber license.
- Must obtain a Michigan Plumbing Contractor license within six months of hire.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License (vehicle designation as required);
Tribal Driver’s License with Motor Pool Vehicle usage if applicable. - Native American preference applies.
- Understanding of accepted plumbing trade practices, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to refrigerants and toxic chemicals.
- Competence in standard construction safety practices.
- Advanced plumbing trade skills.
- Skill in writing logs and technical reports.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, building plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency in installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems.
- Strong diagnostic skills for plumbing malfunctions.
- Leadership and guidance for others.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to recommend corrective action and prepare cost estimates.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships with diverse people.
- Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers.
- Stand, walk, and reach for extended periods.
- Occasional sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Normal visual acuity, able to talk and hear.
- Frequent bending, lifting, stooping and reaching.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Work under all weather conditions, including extreme hot/cold.
- Work in confined, awkward, or cramped spaces.
- Frequent ladder use and confined location work.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts.
- Evening, overnight, holiday, and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel may be required.
- Work in a smoking environment with constant visual stimulation from gaming equipment.
