Patient Access Representative Job Description Summary
MUSC Children’s After Hours and Specialty Clinics is a pediatric outpatient clinic under Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital host pediatric subspecialists (orthopedics, cardiology, pulmonary, etc.) and provide walk‑in After Hours Care, a direct extension of the pediatric emergency department to serve the community when most pediatricians are closed.
Position requires variable shifts including day, evening, weekend, and holiday coverage.
Responsibilities- Greets and welcomes patients and families in person or by phone.
- Optimizes patient experience and clinic efficiency by appropriately scheduling appointments.
- Maintains patient accounts by accurately recording and updating personal and financial information.
- Collects co‑pays and prior balances.
- Protects patient privacy by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Provides customer service, message distribution, ancillary scheduling, and referral management.
- Interacts respectfully with medical professionals and care team members from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Hours of operation vary based on clinic needs.
- Specialty Clinics: 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.
- After Hours Care: 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.
- Weekends and Holidays: 11:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, or a high school diploma (GED) with two years of work experience in a medical office, call center, or customer service environment; and a minimum of six months of satisfactory work experience in MUHA Patient Access or equivalent medical‑related experience.
