Genetic Counselor - Maternal Fetal Medicine
Location:
Mount Pleasant, SC
Our Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) clinic in Mount Pleasant, SC is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Genetic Counselor to support patients and families through complex prenatal care. This role works closely with MFM physicians, the medical director, and interdisciplinary clinical teams to provide patient-centered genetic counseling, education, and ongoing support.
The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, and skilled at translating complex genetic information into clear, compassionate guidance.
What You’ll Do- Counsel patients and families regarding genetic diseases, prenatal genetic testing procedures, and test results
- Explain complex genetic information in an understandable and supportive manner to assist patients in informed decision-making
- Collaborate with the medical director, MFM physicians, and other clinicians regarding patient care and counseling plans
- Provide access to appropriate resources, including medical interventions, grief counseling, and supportive follow-up as needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
- Promote strong working relationships with physicians, staff, patients, and families
- Uphold patient confidentiality and ethical standards of genetic counseling practice
- Graduate Degree, required. Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling or related field.
- One (1) year of cancer genetic counseling experience preferred
- Board certified or board eligible for Genetic Counseling by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetics, required
- Demonstrated knowledge of genetic test procedures, results interpretation, and genetic diseases
- Strong communication skills, including listening, writing, speaking, and reading
- Ability to explain complex information in a patient-friendly manner
- Effective organizational and time-management skills with attention to accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism
