Key Role

Work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment as a scientific and technical advisor supporting advanced research and development as a Technical SETA – Diagnostic Imaging & Oculomics Specialist. Provide strategic assessments, create technical reports, develop program plans, track technological progress, and perform related tasks to advance client R&D objectives. Support program management and development, prepare high‑quality briefing materials, and engage regularly with stakeholders.

Operate with minimal guidance, balancing multiple priorities while delivering high‑value results.

Role

This role focuses on next‑generation, smartphone‑based diagnostic technologies for chronic disease detection. You will leverage expertise in mobile software development, AI/ML, and either:

  • Software Application Development for Diagnostics (and/or)
  • Optical Imaging Hardware (sensors/miniaturization) (and/or)
  • Oculomics Research (biomarkers/clinical utility)

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate imaging, biomarkers, and clinical data streams using advanced machine learning approaches. Provide strategic assessments, technical reports, and program plans to accelerate breakthrough health solutions.

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD with 2+ years, MS with 5+ years, or BA with 7+ years in relevant fields.
  • Proven track record in multimodal data fusion and clinical utility studies.
  • Expertise in either imaging and optics (smartphone‑based) or oculomics research for systemic diseases.
  • Experience in software/mobile app development for health or diagnostic applications.
  • Hands‑on experience with AI/ML applied to biomedical data.
  • Familiarity with ARPA‑like programs (DARPA, IARPA, ARPA‑E) or advanced development programs preferred.
  • Ability to synthesize technical, regulatory, and clinical considerations into actionable strategies.
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of federal research regulations and compliance standards.
Core Responsibilities
  • Advise on multimodal data fusion integrating imaging, biomarkers, and clinical covariates using AI/ML.
  • Support software and mobile app development for digital health diagnostics.
  • Conduct market and regulatory analyses, technical due diligence, and literature reviews.
  • Evaluate technical proposals for scientific merit and innovation; prepare recommendations and briefing materials.
  • Facilitate collaborations with researchers, clinicians, and technology developers.
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to operational efficiency, adaptability, proficiency, leadership, multidisciplinary skills, and/or high productivity.
  • Mastery of scientific publications and public presentations.
  • Postgraduate experience (e.g., postdoctoral fellowship or industry role).
  • Experience with medical device design, prototyping, testing, and evaluation, including regulatory pathways and design control principles.
  • Familiarity with biomaterials, tissue engineering, imaging‑based diagnostics, or sensor development.
  • Background in computational modeling, AI/ML for biomedical applications, or systems integration in healthcare environments.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows, interoperability standards, and human factors in medical technology adoption.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, scalability, and quality control for biomedical products.
  • Experience with program development, proposal evaluation, and performer oversight in government or industry R&D.
