Job Title:
Food Safety & Supplier Verification Analyst (Remote or Hybrid)
Position Type: Full-Time
Position SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented Food Safety & Supplier Verification Analyst to design, implement, and manage a robust Supplier Verification Program for our ingredient trading operations. Because an ingredient trading company relies entirely on a global supply chain rather than manufacturing facilities, this role is critical to ensuring that all imported and domestic suppliers comply with global food safety standards, FDA mandates, and strict internal quality metrics.
As our portfolio heavily features raw agricultural commodities
, this role requires a sharp focus on biological, physical, and environmental hazards inherent to agricultural supply chains. This position is available as a fully remote or hybrid arrangement, requiring excellent self-management and digital communication skills.
- Design and maintain a comprehensive Supplier Verification Program tailored to a high-volume ingredient trading catalog.
- Build a structured process to onboard new supply partners, evaluating their risk profile based on ingredient type, geographic origin, and history of compliance.
- Systematically collect, audit, and archive international and domestic supplier food safety documentation, including COAs (Certificates of Analysis), allergen statements, third-party audit reports (SQF, BRCGS, FSSC 22000), and specification sheets.
- Conduct exhaustive hazard analyses on raw agricultural commodities
, specifically targeting risks like mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and pathogenetic microbes (e.g., Salmonella,
E. coli).
- Serve as the core internal expert on the FDA Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP), ensuring full compliance for all imported ingredient categories.
- Maintain active status as a PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) to develop and refine hazard analysis programs.
- Monitor changing global food safety regulations and agricultural compliance mandates to seamlessly handle potential FDA or third-party audits.
- Manage the digital review of incoming ingredient batch data against established specifications before products reach end-use buyers.
- Own the technical resolution process for customer quality complaints or out-of-specification (OOS) issues, coordinating directly with international and domestic agricultural suppliers to implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Act as a strategic partner to the trading and procurement teams, offering technical sign-off on new supply networks or product lines using digital collaboration tools.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agronomy, Microbiology, Chemistry
, or a related scientific discipline. - Experience: 2–4 years of experience working directly within food safety compliance, supplier quality assurance, or regulatory affairs. Direct experience managing raw agricultural commodity risks or working with a broker/distributor is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Active FSPCA PCQI and HACCP certifications are strictly required. Formal training in FSVP rules and the FDA Produce Safety Rule is heavily preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of GFSI benchmarked schemes (SQF, BRCGS), FSMA regulations, and supply chain tracking frameworks.
- Remote Proficiency: Proven ability to work autonomously in a remote or hybrid environment, utilizing modern digital document management systems and remote communication platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack, Sharepoint).
