Position Overview

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Day Shift – Full‑time Employee – Surgery Department

SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital – Mt. VERNON, IL

Provides care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or physician, functioning within the scope of license.

• Contribute to the assessment of patients and ensure their well‑being.
• Administer medications and observe patients for adverse reactions.
• Educate patients and families about disease treatment plans, self‑care after discharge, holistic health needs, resources and follow‑up care.
• Maintain constant state of alertness and work in a safe manner.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Constant use of speech for oral communication.
• Constant standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects 0‑25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry.
• Frequent visual use within 20 inches to 20 feet and color identification.
• Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
• Frequent hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds and alarms.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects 25‑50 lbs.
• Occasional patient movement, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive leg/arm movements.
• Occasional driving.
• Rare crawling and running.

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school or other equivalency for licensing.
• No work experience required.

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
• For Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin: BLS HCP and LPN registered through the Compact State.

Hourly: $20.11 – $32.18

Sign‑on bonus available for eligible external candidates.
