Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Position Summary
With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non‑diesel equipment and trucks, including chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies, control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems. The technician may also perform basic tire work such as replacement, rotation, and tread depth checks.

- Maintain a working knowledge and moderate skill proficiency in vehicle components and systems, performing preventative and repair maintenance both on‑site and on the road.
- Repair and maintain chassis components.
- Maintain refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems, and air and hydraulic braking systems.
- Repair and maintain engines.
- Service suspension, drivetrain and steering systems.
- Operate heating and air conditioning systems.
- Perform line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Safely provide road service when necessary to ensure equipment is returned to operation efficiently.
- Identify the source of malfunctions using electronic tools.
- Complete all required company training programs.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
- Prior experience with maintenance work on Classes 1‑5 light/medium duty and heavy‑duty Class 7‑8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.
- ASE certifications (T1–T8) are a plus.
- Commercial driver’s license is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair, or be graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within 3 months.
- Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in heavy truck or automotive systems: suspensions & steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drivetrain, diesel emissions.
Shift: Monday – Friday;
Start time 3:30 pm
Pay range: $22.40 – $33.60 per hour
