Job Summary

As a member of a specialized statewide child welfare training team, I work collaboratively with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS) and community partners to provide training, coaching, consultation and professional development to child welfare agency staff, supervisors, and managers. This includes introductory awareness and post‑training reinforcement related to the Illinois Core Practice Model, effective child welfare agency leadership development, and other key IDCFS initiatives.

I facilitate, develop, and lead trainings, guide learning groups, and provide ongoing field support to enhance the transfer of learning and reinforce application from the training environment to field operations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Train, coach, mentor and professionally develop child welfare agency staff and leadership through individual coaching, group learning, and formal training on leadership and supervisory skills; promote collaborative partnering with external child welfare community service providers, court personnel and collateral entities. Partner with child welfare staff, supervisors, managers, agency leadership and key stakeholders to assess strengths and opportunities for growth and support development and implementation of practice enhancement plans.

    Provide child welfare field support, including regular meetings with individuals and small cohorts within field offices, agencies or client residences. Support coaching of supervisors and managers to assess program strengths and improvement opportunities, apply programmatic frameworks, and use various methodologies to improve outcomes. Maintain progress notes and needs assessments; author and submit regular reports, assists with data collection, entry, and analysis.
  • Co‑facilitate training of trainers for child welfare practice and leadership content, coordinate and prepare curriculum delivery, train staff on facilitation styles, presentation and classroom management skills. Lead or participate in work groups and special projects, attend and coordinate meetings, draft reports, and collaborate with Field Implementation Support Program Managers on curriculum design, research and enhancement. Stay current on emerging trends, research findings, and best practices, incorporating new knowledge into program activities and initiatives.
  • Utilize IDCFS/UIUC equipment and software (laptop, copier/scanner, LCD projector, smart board, webinar platforms, Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, Excel, Qualtrics/Survey Monkey, D‑Net, Learning and Development Center LMS) appropriately and proficiently, and perform other related duties as assigned to further the unit’s mission.
Travel Requirements

Statewide travel required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related professional degree in human services.
• Minimum four (4) years of experience in a public‑sponsored, agency‑based child welfare setting, including direct casework in Intact Family Services, Permanency/Foster Care, Investigations/Child Protection, Integrated Assessment, or comparable human services.
• Two (2) of those years must include supervision of child welfare direct service staff and/or management of child welfare services.
• Experience applying learning methodologies such as coaching, transfer of learning, group facilitation, motivational interviewing, training and curriculum development.
• Current Illinois license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) at time of hire.
