Assistant Psychologist

The closing date is 15 January 2026

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 12 months from start date due to funding

If you are interested applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

We are pleased to be recruiting an Assistant Psychologist to join our psychology team, due to the current Assistant Psychologist gaining a place on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. The roles are supported and supervised by a psychologist.

The post will be split across two Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB:
Cynon and Merthyr CMHTs.

The role is advertised as 30 hours/week, but there may be scope to increase to full time. This could be discussed at interview.

Please note:

we will not be closing applications earlier than the proposed date, so please take your time to write an application that reflects your experience and is specific to this role. Interviews will be in person unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn’t need to have skills in Welsh, we’ll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t 'fluency', just speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

For more information, see 'Welsh Language Guidance' in the documents right at the bottom.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve helping the CMHT psychologists to prepare for and run therapy groups, conduct audits and evaluations, and carry out other tasks to support psychological working and service development in the CMHTs. You will also have a small individual caseload for clinical work which will be fully supported and supervised. You will be joining an innovative psychology service that is integrated into multi-disciplinary teams.

We have good links with the South Wales Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology.
