Experience:

Previous teaching experience, leading community groups, or students through a variety of theatrical experiences and/or productions. Has a strong theater arts background with experience and knowledge of the art of acting, improvisation, play writing,directing, and stage management.

This is a teaching opportunity in Theater Arts for the elementary-age level in a public school setting. This position is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position with up to 5 hours of teaching per week. The Theatre Teacher will teach at school site/sites in the assigned school district on a weekly basis during the school year. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for theatre arts and a strong commitment to nurturing students’ creativity and talent.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement CSMA curriculum for Theatre arts in a public elementary school setting. (Faculty will have online access to curriculum & lesson planning)
  • Thorough understanding of CA State VAPA standards.
  • Create a fun and meaningful learning environment while fostering creativity, self-expression, and collaboration among students and build confidence through performance.
  • Organize and direct school theatre productions.
  • Attend faculty meetings and trainings by CSMA and school partners to enhance understanding of curriculum and teaching skills. (Mentor program available for new teachers)
  • Ensure the success of the Art4

    Schools program at your site by communicating regularly with on-site school staff and CSMA

Skills and

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field
  • Previous experience in teaching theatre arts at elementary school level or equivalent.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of the children
  • Effective communication both verbal and written to school partners, staff/teachers and CSMA
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Competent computer skills and familiarity with video conferencing software, Zoom, Google Workspace, and MS Office.
  • A reliable form of transportation to get to and from the assigned school sites and occasional trips to the Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View, CA.

Physical Demands:

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
