Staff Systems Engineer
At Wisk, we are transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all‑electric, autonomous flight. Our passionate team works together to solve high‑impact problems that have never been solved before, delivering everyday flight for everyone and helping people spend less time getting there and more time being there.
Wisk is looking for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our Conflict Detection and Resolution (CD&R) team. As part of the CD&R team within the Autoflight and Navigation (AF&N) team, inside the Autonomy and Airspace Integration (A&AI) Integrated Product Team, you will own and lead portions of the system architecture and system model to enable functions such as Airborne Traffic Detection, DAA Alerting and Directive Guidance, Automatic Return to Course and Forward Looking Terrain Avoidance throughout the complete product life cycle.
The successful candidate will have hands‑on experience developing and building systems for type‑certified aircraft from initial concept through flight testing and certification, with the technical breadth and leadership necessary to influence and align all engineering functions.
- Lead the definition, development, and management of system architecture and system models through the complete product life cycle, emphasizing onboard aircraft functions to automatically detect and avoid other airspace users and terrain.
- Own the system‑level requirements for CD&R functions, leading their decomposition, allocation, and validation.
- Execute trade studies that inform system design, especially to appropriately allocate risk and complexity.
- Engage external vendors in new traffic avoidance and terrain avoidance product concepts.
- Define and own test and evaluation strategies to examine where the system or vendor products need to improve.
- Work with other system engineers to drive architectural consistency and best practices.
- Interface with regulatory bodies and internal program leadership on key technical decisions.
- Define data analysis requirements and success criteria for system verification and validation.
- BS in an engineering degree or higher.
- 8+ years of experience in requirements development and test design of aircraft systems or other complex, safety‑critical systems.
- Experience in developing and deploying aviation/aerospace systems through production.
- Demonstrated experience leading and owning complete system architecture from ideation through implementation.
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering principles and tools (e.g., Cameo).
- Experience with FAA Type Certification or Technical Standards Order (TSO) Authorizations.
- MS or PhD in aerospace (or related field) engineering degree.
- Experience with TCAS II (DO‑185B), ADS‑B (DO‑260C and DO‑282C), Mode S (DO‑181F), GPWS (DO‑161A), TAWS (DO‑367), GCAS, Aeronautical Databases (DO‑200, DO‑276), DAA (DO‑365), or DAA Radars (DO‑366).
- Experience with FAA software and hardware certification standards (DO‑178C, DO‑330, DO‑254, DO‑160).
- Direct experience with system development lifecycle processes (ARP‑4754A) and system safety analysis (ARP‑4761).
- You are a highly motivated, self‑starting individual with a broad set of skills and are never afraid of facing complex technical challenges.
- You are solution‑oriented with a strong analytical mindset.
- You have strong communication skills and can tailor your communications to suit the audience.
- You can adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion.
- You embrace challenges, meet commitments, and deliver results within reasonable expectations.
- You are a positive team player and a technical mentor.
