About the Role

As the Senior Engineering Manager for the Freestyle team, you will lead a mission‑critical engineering group responsible for designing, developing, and delivering Freestyle Orchestrator‑Workspace ONE UEM's low‑code, cross‑platform automation and workflow engine. This platform empowers IT administrators to automate complex device management tasks, orchestrate application and profile deployments, and enforce compliance across diverse device fleets (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, and VDI/Horizon environments).

Freestyle Orchestrator serves over 1,500 customer tenants and executes billions of workflows annually, forming the backbone of Workspace ONE's "Autonomous Workspace" vision. Architected as a set of microservices with independent CI/CD pipelines, Freestyle integrates deeply with Workspace ONE UEM, Intelligence, and third‑party systems via robust APIs. You will drive the evolution of Freestyle from a UEM‑centric offering to a unified orchestration framework supporting SaaS and on‑prem deployments.

This includes scaling the platform, improving reliability, and expanding capabilities to new environments like Linux and Horizon VDI‑all while ensuring operational excellence and security. This role demands a leader who combines technical depth with strategic vision, demonstrates extreme ownership, and fosters a culture of collaboration, trust, and innovation. Challenge assumptions and ask the right questions that push boundaries. Inspire engineers to think beyond the status quo, explore innovative solutions, and go deeper into technical details to uncover smarter, more effective approaches.

Drive a culture where creativity and critical thinking lead to impactful, lasting outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Team Building:
Build, mentor, and retain a high‑performing, collaborative engineering team; create clear growth paths and empower senior engineers.
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, inclusion, and continuous learning.
  • Lead hiring efforts with a focus on diversity and effective onboarding; develop strong team cohesion and help the team bond toward shared goals.
  • Technical Ownership & Problem Solving:
Collaborate with Product Managers and Technical Leads to define, prioritize, and deliver on the product roadmap for Freestyle workflows and orchestration. Translate business and product vision into actionable engineering plans, balancing customer‑facing features with foundational initiatives.
  • Ensure the team follows best practices in architecture, coding, and design, focusing on extensibility, maintainability, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of onboarding documentation, design documents (using UEM templates), and technical guides for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operational Excellence:
Champion a quality‑first mindset, tracking and improving metrics like defect rates, MTTR, and RCCAs. Ensure compliance with secure SDLC practices and VMware/Omnissa security standards. Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Cross‑Team

    Collaboration:

Act as a bridge across multiple teams (Product, SRE, Partner Engineering) to align on dependencies and resolve technical challenges. Represent Freestyle in architecture reviews, design discussions, and customer escalations with a customer‑centric approach.
  • Influence process improvements and innovation across the organization.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Oversee clear, accessible documentation for onboarding, design, and troubleshooting. Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across distributed teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in engineering management.
  • Proven ability to lead high‑performing teams in SaaS or enterprise software environments.
  • Strong technical foundation in modern engineering practices: CI/CD, automated testing, secure SDLC, cloud‑native architectures.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to influence across teams and present to senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to own outcomes end‑to‑end, balancing technical depth and strategic priorities.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with workflow engines, orchestration platforms, or device management solutions.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Maven, Artifactory, and cloud deployment pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex technical challenges.
  • Experience with Workspace ONE UEM or similar enterprise mobility platforms.
