We have over 181 million registered learners globally and work to improve learning outcomes, especially for learners in historically under-resourced communities.
Our Community
We hire people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to strengthen our company. We value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as necessary to achieve our mission. We invest in our people and are committed to your professional development.
The RoleWe’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our Districts team. The heart of this role is driving the end-to-end design architecture for our Next-Gen Administrator platform. You will approach a suite of products as a system, working cross-functionally to meet business objectives and create a competitive advantage.
Immediate focus areas include:
- Increasing engagement and usability of our current school and district administrator platform
- Collaborating with design, engineering, and product management to shape the longer-term vision for the Next Gen Admin platform
- Supporting end-to-end information architecture across our multi-product ecosystem
We emphasize an inclusive, small but mighty Design team that pursues the mission to provide a free, world-class education. You will be encouraged to be yourself, feel valued, supported, and to grow professionally.
What You’ll Do- Leverage product design and systems thinking to form and advocate a clear design POV for enhancements to an existing user platform
- Create end-to-end design artifacts (journey maps, system maps, wireframes, flows, low-high fidelity mockups, AI-scaffolded prototypes) to test hypotheses around clarity, reach, engagement, and product cohesion
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Content, and Partnerships to iterate on existing products and design new experiences
- Plan and facilitate light research sessions with Senior Design Manager, UXR specialists, and partners to inform decisions
- Drive project excellence with strong project management, rapid design iterations, and clear rationale
- Maintain and contribute to our design systems, reviewing proposals to ensure consistency and usability
- Present ideas to diverse teams and stakeholders across Khan Academy
- Grow and mentor design teammates and cross-functional partners
Responsibilities may evolve with business needs.
What You Bring- At least 10+ years of relevant experience on an in-house product design team
- Strong information architecture, ecosystem design, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design skills
- Ability to manage ambiguous and defined projects; participate actively in design reviews
- Excellent verbal and written communication for technical and non-technical partners
- Comfort with ambiguous, startup-like environments and frequent leadership interaction
- Bias toward action, adaptability, and cross-functional relationship-building
- Lean, fast delivery mindset and ability to ship valuable experiences quickly
- Willingness to collaborate with Brand and Visual Design to ensure a cohesive Khan Academy look and feel
- Mentoring and developing design teammates and cross-functional partners
Note:
Submitting a portfolio with your application is required. The portfolio should highlight parts of your background relevant to the job description. Applications without a portfolio link or attachment may not be considered.
