Perform the role of Electrical Craft Supervisor. Supervise and lead a team of Electricians, Instrumentation Technicians, and Machinists. Provide leadership, coordinate plans, schedule, and administer the team with their daily work activities and ensure all work is performed using safe work practices and established procedures. Direction of work activities will include operations support and maintenance across multiple facilities and work shifts.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, written and oral communications skills (including highly technical communications), and be confident leading and directing mid‑size multi‑discipline work groups. Small project support will be requested from time to time. Ensures personnel have required safety, occupational, procedural training and certification for individual assignments. Works with Systems, Test, Project Engineers, Managers, Safety Office, and customer personnel providing craft resources and support.

Support the Operations and Maintenance Branch goals, missions and compliance to standards.

Provide technical, managerial, and safety reports on a routine basis to the Operations Branch Manager including the team’s accomplishments. Review and approve team member’s timesheets. Generates and submits purchase requests for various maintenance and project needs.

Work with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maximo, to create and track preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Support and supervise Facility Service Managers (FSM’s) responsibilities for various buildings at NASA Ames Research Center. Set shift schedules for the electrical crew. Attend weekly Test in Progress and Management Safety Committee meetings. Maintain maintenance records and systems. Responsible to train and qualify operators and electrical maintenance work at the wind tunnels and various support facilities.

Continual update of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and lead continual improvement efforts with development of technical and operational training requirements for operators and implementation of safety best practices.

Candidate should be familiar with electrical circuitry, power distribution systems. This includes but not limited to transformers, breakers, motor control centers, three phase motor operations, protective relays, IEEE, NEC, and NFPA 70E Standards, preventive and predictive Maintenance, thermography, motor circuit analysis, and other electrical diagnostic tools. Must understand proper selection, usage, and testing/calibration of required PPE. Must be familiar with LOTO and confined space procedures.

Perform installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of low and medium voltage equipment up to 13.8 kV at the Unitary Planned Wind Tunnel facility including substation, switch gear, and panel boards.

Physical Requirements of Position

Ability to perform work in confined spaces and participate in a Hearing Conservation Program. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

Description of Work Environment

Work will be both inside and outside. Field work may bring individual into proximity with extreme high or low temperatures, high noise levels, high-speed rotating machinery, confined spaces, working at heights, and systems containing high potential energy.

Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks

Large electrical and mechanical equipment, such as high-pressure reciprocating air compressors, lubrication and cooling pumps and motors, water and air control valves, cooling tower fans, large AC motors, capacitors, battery banks, large axial fan/compressors, gearboxes, and vacuum pumps. Ability to use desk top computer, MS Word and Excel, Fax, CMMS database, scanners, telephones, printers and other general office equipment.

Criticality of Attendance

Standard work week of 40 hours, 8 hours per day, M – F, nominally 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Occasional overtime during regular days and some weekends may be required. 2nd and 3rd shift work required at times.
