Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Process customer bills and insurance claims accurately and timely.
  • Assist with daily and month‑end billing functions, procedures, and reporting.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, caregivers, medical providers and insurance carriers.
  • Determine patient eligibility coverage with insurance providers, including private individuals and government entities.
  • Maintain and audit patient files and supporting documentation for third‑party audits and payer compliance.
  • Answer billing inquiries via phone or electronic communications and resolve patient billing issues.
  • Support residents or responsible parties with Medicare plan comparisons during enrollment periods.
  • Record patient payments, returns, credits, and process credit‑card payments.
  • Pursue payment from delinquent accounts and negotiate payment arrangements.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding rejected claims, eligibility, prior authorizations and rebill claims as needed.
  • Develop knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Prescription Drug Plans and third‑party insurance billing requirements.
  • Use pharmacy information systems to process prior authorizations, resolve rejections, produce reports and complete billing functions.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and rotate through other departments to gain functional knowledge.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA.
  • Meet service goals of the pharmacy as a collaborative team member.
Essential Job Functions
  • Research and establish patient eligibility coverage; reverify benefits as needed.
  • Accurately enter and update patient/insurance information in the billing system.
  • Maintain patient files for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Provide assistance and timely response to all billing customer inquiries.
  • Guide residents or responsible parties during Medicare plan comparisons.
  • Complete daily census, admit, discharge, and room changes for assigned facilities.
  • Process patient payments, returns, and credits; transmit credit‑card payments.
  • Research, identify and organize audit documentation.
  • Perform prescription claims adjudication, correct and rebill claims.
  • Develop proficiency in pharmacy information systems.
  • Rotate through departments.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and other regulations.
  • Work collaboratively to meet service goals.
Education & Certifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • 1+ years of related experience.
  • Advanced computer skills; pharmacy information system experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment with multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Quality‑minded; motivated to find and correct errors.
