Job OverviewJoin Mintek’s Mthatha R&D team as an Advanced Materials Development Engineer. This role focuses on designing next-generation materials for industrial applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams to commercialize breakthrough technologies. The position offers exposure to state-of-the‑art labs and partnerships with international research institutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of high-performance alloys and composite materials
- Conduct material characterization using advanced analytical techniques
- Optimize manufacturing processes for scalability and cost‑efficiency
- Collaborate with clients to define material specifications for industrial applications
- Document research findings and publish in peer‑reviewed journals
- Expertise in materials synthesis, processing, and testing
- Proficiency in using SEM, XRD, and other analytical equipment
- Strong understanding of materials failure analysis
- Experience with CAD software for material design
- Excellent problem‑solving and project management skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field. Master’s or PhD preferred but not mandatory.
Experience3-5 years in materials development, preferably in R&D environments. Experience in aerospace or renewable energy sectors is advantageous.
Salary45,000 – 60,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
