Job Summary

The Senior Manager / AVP – Construction Accounting will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, financial reporting, construction draws, project accounting, cash management, and internal controls for the Company's construction and development portfolio. This role will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), support construction draw administration, manage project-level financial oversight, and drive operational excellence across accounting and finance functions.
The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting or contractor accounting, with a strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, project profitability, construction draws, job costing, and financial reporting within the real estate and construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, general ledger activities, and the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.

• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.

• Ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled and reviewed as part of the month-end close process.

• Manage construction draw processes, lender requisitions, and supporting documentation to ensure timely funding and compliance with lender requirements.

• Monitor project budgets, contingency utilization, change orders, buyout savings, and cost overruns, providing detailed variance analysis and risk assessments to management.

• Prepare and review project profitability reports and oversee percentage-of-completion accounting for construction and development projects.

• Manage annual audits and tax compliance activities, ensuring all required information is accurate, complete, and available to auditors and tax advisors.

• Establish, maintain, and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.

• Support cash management activities, forecasting, and budget monitoring to ensure effective financial planning and control.

• Provide management with financial information and analysis to support strategic decision-making.

• Oversee and optimize the use of Yardi and other accounting or project management systems to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.

• Support project conversions from construction phase to stabilized operations, including coordination of final cost certifications, audit deliverables, and transition to property accounting.

• Ensure compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

• Continuously evaluate accounting operations and recommend process improvements, automation opportunities, and best practices.

Requirements

• CA or CPA with 8+ years of experience in the real estate and/or construction industry.

• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, construction draws, project profitability reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.

• Experience with financial reporting under US GAAP and/or IFRS.

• Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and internal controls.

• Proficiency in Yardi, Procore, or similar real estate and construction accounting systems.

• Experience with LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) affordable housing projects and construction financing is preferred.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated leadership, team management, and stakeholder management abilities.

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

• High level of integrity, accountability, and follow-through.
