Job Context:
Birla Carbon Gummidipoondi is located at around 45 km from Chennai City. The Unit produces 90,000 MT of Carbon Black and exports 10. 5 MW power to Electricity Board and Group Units.
The unit is the lowest cost producer of Carbon Black in India. Within its 5 years of existence, the unit has won several accreditations like ISO 9002, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18000, QS 9000, IQRS LEVEL-7 and lately the prestigious DEMING AWARD instituted by JUSE of Japan. Outside automobile sector this is the first unit in India to achieve this rare distinction.
The workforce numbers 194 persons. TPM award was obtained in 2004 .
Stores Inventory Management is one of the key primary processes in carbon black manufacturing. Inventory Management serves as a vital link between User and 'Purchase' for smooth running of the plant. Since the unit is located close to a Metropolitan City efforts are always to be made to keep the inventory as low as possible

Key Result Areas
KRA (Accountabilities) (Max 1325 Characters) Supporting Actions (Max 1325 Characters)
KRA1 CBFS Handling
To reduce overheads expenses on CBFS
Ensure submission of daily stock & consumption status of CBFS for further procurement planning
Ensure availability of tankers for lifting CBFS and regular interaction with transporters
Co – ordination with weighbridge for CBFS tankers
Reconcile for proper accounting of CBFS transactions from port to plant consumption
Contract review of following services
1 Port Storage Tanks
2 Agents
3 Transporters
Ensure optimum levels of CBFS at both Plant and Port for smooth unloading / discharge of material
Bill passing for Supplier, Shipper, Surveyor, Storage Terminal and Transporters
KRA2 Receipt of goods
Ensure timely regularization of receipt against all incoming materials, viz. Raw Material , Packing Material , Project and Stores & Spares
Close co – ordination with quality control department for timely inspection of incoming Raw Materials & Packing Materials
Timely unloading of all incoming materials
Ensure timely intimation to supplier in case of deviation
In case of any transit damage co – ordination with accounts & insurance authorities for claim benefit
Provide daily MIS for receipt
Timely intimation to users regarding receipt and quality inspection clearance
Provision of Rejection data
Ensuring timely sending GRNs to Accounts for bill passing and payment to suppliers
Monthly GR/IR review
Creation of item codes and service codes
KRA3 Issue of Material
Ensure for timely issue materials to plant users
Easy availability of material
Effective implementation of FIFO method
Timely issue of materials against issue passes
Timely booking consumption to ensure nil shortages
Accurate accounting (Consumption)
Make available daily MIS
KRA4 Handling Storage & Preservation of Materials – 5s
Planning & monitoring for proper handling, storage, identification & preservation of stores items
Ensure Place for everything & everything in its place
Proper planning for storage of materials at appropriate locations
Effective preservation method for storage of shelf life items
Ensure complete identification of stores items
KRA5 Physical Verification of Stock items
Ensure for timely completion of physical verification process of Raw Materials , Packing Materials and General Stores & Spares
Timely completion of physical verification of CBFS, chemicals, Packing Materials & General Stores & Spares
Ensure for timely Submission of report
KRA6 Auto Items
Ensure for availability of auto items always in stock
Periodically review of auto items list
Periodically review of stock levels of auto items
Ensure for timely indent of auto items
Follow up for delivery of materials
KRA7 Inventory Management
Monitor efficient Inventory management
Periodic review of Criticality & Lead Time of Stores items
Periodically review of department inventory
Close Monitoring on Inventory Turns
Effective MIS for Inventory control
Efforts for timely disposal of obsolete and scrap material
KRA8 QMS
Ensure for proper documentation & implementation QMS practices in stores
Ensure for proper documentation of procedures , Work – Instructions , formats as per QMS guidelines
Regular monitoring on environmental & safety issues
Ensure & update requirement of audit findings of auditors
Close monitoring on Stores Record Matrix
KRA9 People Development
Assess for development of team members and prepare them for shoulder higher responsibilities
Provide on the job training
PCP on regular basis
Motivate them for active participation in developmental activities ie 5S , KSS & WCM
