Role Overview
The Production Head will lead and oversee the entire manufacturing operations of the API facility. This role is responsible for ensuring production targets are achieved on time, within budget, and in strict compliance with Quality, cGMP, and EHS standards. The incumbent will act as a strategic leader and execution-focused project manager, driving operational excellence and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Operations Management
Plan and execute quarterly, monthly, and weekly production plans as per S&OP, ensuring optimum utilization of reactors, centrifuges, and dryers.
Monitor and improve process yields and cycle times through continuous process monitoring and troubleshooting.
Manage raw material consumption and utilities (steam, power, chilled water) to minimize variances and production costs.
Ensure and maintain housekeeping in and around the production area.
Handle all types of production equipment and process modifications.
Plan the entire line manufacturing and drive operational efficiency.
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
Oversee the safe handling of hazardous chemicals, solvents, and exothermic reactions.
Ensure all processes are conducted within defined safe operating limits.
Work closely with the EHS team to maintain an accident-free workplace and ensure 100% use of PPE by shop-floor teams.
Handle deviations, change control, and near misses; execute CAPA and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Perform investigations in case of failures and ensure production deviations are reported, evaluated, and investigated with proper conclusions.
Ensure adherence to cleanroom procedures and full compliance with GMP and global regulatory requirements.
People Management and Development
Lead a multi-shift workforce with proper manpower planning and skill allocation.
Collaborate with HR to identify skill gaps and facilitate technical and behavioral training programs.
Build a disciplined, motivated, and high-performing production team.
Address employee concerns and grievances in coordination with HR.
Execute plans through the production team while fostering a strong team culture.
Inventory Planning and Dispatch Coordination
Control inventory in coordination with Supply Chain and minimize non-moving and dead inventory.
Monitor and optimize consumables and raw material stock levels.
Coordinate with QA, QC, PPIC, Warehouse, and Logistics teams for timely dispatch.
Ensure on-time product delivery and supply continuity.
Project Management and Reporting
Prepare equipment occupancy and capacity planning sheets.
Explore opportunities for new product introduction.
Develop detailed project plans including timelines, resource allocation, and execution.
Review project schedules with cross-functional teams and monitor progress.
Coordinate with QA, QC, and PPIC for customer technical queries.
Prepare and share daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
Initiate and drive scale-up meetings with cross-functional teams.
Prepare site-level operational and risk management reports and drive strategic planning while ensuring strong execution.
SAP, Trackwise & Documentation Management
Review and approve BMRs and BPRs in Trackwise.
Review and approve department SOPs.
Perform transactions and documentation in SAP and DMS systems.
Stakeholder Management
Collaborate with site functional leaders and senior management.
Build strong relationships with customers, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
Engage with government bodies and external partners and provide timely responses to customers and regulatory representatives.
Eligibility Criteria
Education
M.Sc. (Chemistry) /
B.Sc. (Chemistry) / B.E. Chemical Engineering / Diploma in Chemical Engineering
Experience
15–16 years in API production
5–8 years in leadership roles
Experience in bulk drug or pharmaceutical manufacturing
Language
Kannada required;
Tulu preferred

Strong knowledge of API production and GMP compliance
Expertise in distillation, crystallization, filtration, drying, and chemical synthesis
In-depth understanding of ICH Q7 and global regulatory standards
Production planning, batch scheduling, and SOP implementation
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills
Ability to manage multiple product batches
Financial and business acumen, cost management and operational efficiency
Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management
