Overview
Join as a CDL Substitute Instructor (59638) at Sage Truck Driving School. No teaching experience required; training will be provided. Substitute instructors operate on an on‑call basis, covering absences of full‑time and part‑time instructors. Must hold a Commercial Driver’s License and may need additional teaching licensure.
Responsibilities- Makes appropriate application of learning theory and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the capabilities of individuals or student groups.
- Assesses students’ accomplishments regularly, uses identified students’ needs to plan instruction, and maintains required records.
- Takes reasonable precautions while supervising students in classroom, range, or road settings to ensure safety of students and protection of equipment and facilities.
- Maintains open communication lines with staff and students concerning academic and behavioral progress.
- Strives to implement educational student goals consistent with corporate policy by instruction and action.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings as needed.
- Strives for professional growth through ongoing programs designed to supplement and enhance teaching ability.
- Is familiar with school and corporate philosophy.
- Is knowledgeable about state and federal laws and corporate policies affecting curriculum and instruction.
- Carrying out other job‑related duties upon administrative request.
- Valid Class A CDL License.
- Minimum two (2) years of practical trucking experience that demonstrates instructional competency.
- A safe CDL A driving record as determined by the SAGE Safety Department.
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe truck driving principles, practices, laws, and regulations covering tractor‑trailer interstate operations.
- Capability to demonstrate the SAGE curriculum subject matter to students.
- Additional truck driving and/or teaching licensure, if necessary.
- Driving instructors must have knowledge, skill, and actual performance abilities that far exceed the objectives of the curriculum.
- Communicate instructions, assess performance, and provide guidance on theory and practice during 4 to 12 hour shifts as needed.
- Meet minimum qualifications for interstate tractor‑trailer drivers per FMCSA requirements, including Part 391 physical and driver qualification standards.
- Pass DOT drug/alcohol screening.
