Plastics Process Engineer

Job Summary

The Plastics Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining plastics manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality products, efficient production, and cost-effective operations. This role works closely with production, quality, tooling, and product development teams to improve process performance and support new product launches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, set up, and optimize plastics manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming)
  • Establish and maintain process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
  • Troubleshoot process issues related to defects, cycle time, material flow, and equipment performance
  • Support new product introductions, including mold trials, material selection, and process validation
  • Analyze production data to identify opportunities for yield improvement, scrap reduction, and cycle‑time optimization
  • Collaborate with tooling and maintenance teams on mold design, modifications, and preventive maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines
  • Provide technical support and training to production and quality personnel
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen projects
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related field)
  • Experience with plastics processing in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of polymer materials, rheology, and processing behavior
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with process troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with blow molding
  • Familiarity with scientific molding principles and process validation
  • Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) and statistical process control (SPC)
  • Knowledge of automation, robotics, or Industry 4.0 systems
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
