Plastics Process EngineerJob Summary
The Plastics Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining plastics manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality products, efficient production, and cost-effective operations. This role works closely with production, quality, tooling, and product development teams to improve process performance and support new product launches.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, set up, and optimize plastics manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming)
- Establish and maintain process parameters, work instructions, and standard operating procedures
- Troubleshoot process issues related to defects, cycle time, material flow, and equipment performance
- Support new product introductions, including mold trials, material selection, and process validation
- Analyze production data to identify opportunities for yield improvement, scrap reduction, and cycle‑time optimization
- Collaborate with tooling and maintenance teams on mold design, modifications, and preventive maintenance
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines
- Provide technical support and training to production and quality personnel
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing, or related field)
- Experience with plastics processing in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of polymer materials, rheology, and processing behavior
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience with process troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Hands‑on experience with blow molding
- Familiarity with scientific molding principles and process validation
- Experience with DOE (Design of Experiments) and statistical process control (SPC)
- Knowledge of automation, robotics, or Industry 4.0 systems
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
