The Part‑Time Café Supervisor plays a key role in creating a welcoming and efficient dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position oversees daily café operations while working hands‑on in food preparation, cooking, and customer service. The Supervisor ensures food quality and safety standards are met, trains and leads café staff, and maintains a clean and organized work environment.

This position will work up to 29 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily café operations to ensure efficient service, quality food preparation, and a positive customer experience.
  • Supervise and train café staff, including student workers and part‑time employees, on food safety, customer service, and proper use of equipment.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor performance to ensure staff meet cleanliness, safety, and service standards.
  • Serve as the on‑site point of contact for café operations, resolving minor issues and escalating concerns as needed to management or campus leadership.
  • Maintain open communication with campus administration, facilities, and café manager regarding café needs and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies, health department regulations, and food handling safety standards.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of menu items in accordance with established recipes and portion standards.
  • Assist with daily food prep activities such as chopping ingredients, assembling sandwiches/salads, and preparing beverages.
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion control to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction.
  • Set up and restock food stations, ensuring proper labeling and storage.
  • Operate cooking equipment such as grills, ovens, and fryers safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of food, beverages, and supplies; notify appropriate staff when restocking or ordering is needed.
  • Conduct regular checks to minimize waste and monitor expiration dates.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Track daily sales and communicate any discrepancies or issues to management.
  • Ensure all café areas—including kitchen, prep areas, and dining spaces—are kept clean, organized, and sanitary.
  • Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain proper hygiene and safety standards at all times, reporting any hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Provide friendly, efficient, and professional service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and feedback courteously, ensuring a welcoming campus dining experience.
  • Support special campus events that require café catering or extended service hours.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification as required (e.g., Serv Safe).
  • Promote a team‑oriented, inclusive environment aligned with the college’s values.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of café operations and student engagement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma
  • Two (2) years of related experience, including supervision experience.
