This role is responsible for installing and repairing service lines, water mains, and hydrants.
Job Responsibilities- Frequently repairs or replaces water lines and mains, including:
Requires constant standing and walking on uneven, slippery surfaces; uses pry bars, ladders, and keys (up to 30 lb) to open and close valves; kneels on asphalt; heavy grasping of pry bars with wrist deviation; trunk and neck flexion; backhoes to dig holes; hand shoveling; lifting and carrying shoring from truck to hole (50–90 lb); carrying pumps (40 lb) and dewatering pumps (75–90 lb); operating hand and air tools, handheld wrenches, cheater bars, “cut‑off saw” (25 lb).
Consistent work in traffic areas.Uses tools such as backhoes, shoring, pumps, dewatering pumps, tamper, wrenches, cheater bars, shovels, rakes, hand tools, air and hydraulic tools, ladders, and cut‑off saws.
- Occasionally repairs or replaces water lines and mains, including:
Uses jackhammer (60–90 lb) to break up asphalt for up to 30 minutes; holds to waist or chest height; heavy grasping with both hands; minimal trunk flexion; uses backhoes to pull lines; may need to climb into holes and push lines when stuck; tools include hand and air tools, ladders, pry bars, keys, jackhammers.
- Frequently or occasionally operates backhoes, including:
Drives equipment to work location; steps into the cabin; operates hand and foot controls; neck rotation and flexion; seat rotation; vibration and jostling; uses backhoes.
- Repairs or replaces hydrantsš and valves on an as‑needed basis, including:
Digging around the hydrant with a backhoe; hand‑digging as required; using hydraulic snappers (100 lb); wrapping chain around mains; pumping motion to squeeze and break mains; trunk and neck flexion; lifting 100 lb; using wrench to open/close hydrants; operating tapping equipment; using tools such as backhoes, hydraulic snappers, wrenches, cheater bars, cut‑off saws, and tapping equipment.
- Frequently maintains hydrants and valves, including:
Flushing hydrants with a wrench; lifting with cheater pipe; lubricating treads; using keys (30 lb) and pry bars; kneeling on asphalt; hand and air tools; hand‑held valve‑turning equipment; trunk and neck flexion.
- Occasionally controls traffic, including:
Placing cones and signs in appropriate locations.
- Full‑time, on‑site
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–4:00 pm
- On‑call responsibility
- High school diploma or GED (minimum)
- Water and/or wastewater certification(s) preferred
- Local travel within service territory
- Valid state driver's license required
