Overview
Facility Maintenance Technician at Amcor – Mundelein, IL. The starting rate of pay is $26 per hour (range $26–$32 based on experience and knowledge). Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Job DescriptionThis position includes both mechanical and electrical aspects of troubleshooting and repair work. Performs skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment and minor construction work in the facility. On an as-needed basis, supports all production machines and auxiliary equipment including breakdown repairs, preventative maintenance, and machine cleanings.
Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance on building systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and control systems; test system competency and component devices and evaluate performance.
- Assist Maintenance Supervisor in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance; recommend approaches to maintenance programs.
- Repair and maintain facilities systems, components and structures; repair plumbing, low- and line-voltage electrical systems, door hardware, fire and life safety equipment/systems, sprinkler systems, sensors and related hardware and software; construct and maintain indoor/outdoor facilities, fans, lights and related; conduct structural safety inspections.
- Research and order replacement parts and supplies as required.
- Maintain induction and air handling units; clean, inspect, replace filters, lubricate and service mechanical, refrigeration and cooling systems.
- Coordinate maintenance of water distribution systems; inspect equipment.
- Identify, repair and maintain appliances and heating/cooling equipment.
- Perform service and preventative maintenance on motorized equipment; troubleshoot and determine when external service is needed.
- Identify projects requiring contractors or vendors; participate in cost estimates; monitor vendor work; review plans for compliance with maintenance standards.
- Coordinate with Facility Project Manager to resolve facility issues; collaborate with other Technicians to prioritize tasks.
- Access and adjust computerized control systems for lighting and energy management; troubleshoot control system issues.
- Train less-skilled staff in facilities maintenance; assist in determining training needs.
- Develop work plans for emergency repairs of critical assets; utilize CMMS and service request systems; track, close and manage work orders.
- Create and close work orders with data on labor hours, downtime, problem/cause/remedy, and parts used.
- Respond to facility emergencies and closures; support start-up operations after closures (e.g., snow/ice removal, checks).
- Follow safety procedures and use PPE (Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash, etc.); maintain a safe work environment and assist in safety training and inspections.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships across the organization; maintain appropriate records and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Building maintenance and construction trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, tile, etc.).
- HVAC repair and inspection.
- PC competency and ability to use mobile apps on handheld devices; familiar with wiring diagrams and electrical measurement.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED;
Associate degree and/or industrial certification preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication; good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Organizational skills; ability to read dimensional templates in metric and standard units.
- Basic computer skills; ability to work with minimal instructions.
- Adapt to varying weather and temperatures; lift up to 60 lbs unassisted; stand/walk for an 8–12 hour shift.
- Push/pull 20–55 lbs; frequent reaching, bending; continuous standing and walking on concrete; use hands and wrists repeatedly.
- Climb stairs, ladders, work in high places; work may occur in small spaces, with dust, fumes, hot/cold temperatures, noise, vibration, wet/uneven surfaces.
Work near moving mechanical parts; use eye protection, hair net, hearing protection in designated areas; cut gloves for sharp tools as required. GMP procedures are observed in all plant areas.
