Mechanical Assembler – Rail Infrastructure

Position Overview

The Assembler I plays a crucial role in the assembly of component parts for rail communications equipment. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and/or Team Leader. Responsibilities include assembling component parts using assembly prints and the Bill of Materials (BOM). Comprehensive training will be provided to ensure proficiency in all assembly tasks.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Knowledge and awareness of ESD (Electro‑Static Discharge) environment.
  • Select components such as transistors, resistors, relays, capacitors, and integrated circuits to populate PCBs.
  • Twist, bend, trim component leads using hand tools.
  • Solder wire leads and joints on underside of board, using soldering iron, to route and connect lead wires to board and between individual components.
  • Proficient at soldering through‑hole components into circuit boards.
  • Surface mount experience necessary.
  • Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment and products.
  • Utilize handheld and power tools such as screwdrivers and hand‑drill.
  • Work with Quality department to ensure the product meets quality standards.
  • Wire crimping, stripping, and soldering.
  • Perform 5S activities and maintain equipment in proper working order, and improve work area cleanliness.
  • Perform work in a safe and healthy manner; ensure deviations to standard work instructions that will lead to quality, productivity, or safety problems are immediately identified.
  • Identify and communicate ideas to team leaders that support improving the team’s performance and the elimination of waste.
  • Participate in process improvement activities.
  • Support other assembly teams when required.
  • Display professional conduct with customers and coworkers.
  • Attend training sessions as needed or required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ years previous electro‑mechanical assembly experience.
  • Basic soldering experience.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of one‑year electronic manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Electronic component‑level soldering skills for PCB assembly.
  • IPC‑A‑610, IPC‑J‑STD‑001, or IPC‑A‑620 knowledge.

Location and Salary

New Kensington, PA – Base salary range for this position in Munhall, PA is $16.40 /hr to $21.30 /hr.
