Physician – Urology

SummaryThe Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is seeking a Physician (Urologist) to join our team in providing comprehensive urologic care for patients. We are a large, vibrant, academic VA practice and many of us are associated with Vanderbilt University Medical Center. We provide routine and complex clinical and surgical care for a growing veteran population extending from Kentucky to Alabama.
Qualifications Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. - Education:
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. - School of origin must be approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the degree was completed.
- License:
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia. - Residency Training:
Completion of a residency program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. - For academic training programs, board certification may be required for faculty status. Approved residencies include ACGME and/or AOA accredited programs, or other residencies with at least five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed for residents in accredited programs and are authorized on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and must have a restricted scope of practice under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical capabilities for a Urologic surgeon: ability to lift heavy items (45 lbs and over), light carry (under 15 lbs), reach over shoulders, walk and stand for 8 hours, and maintain rapid mental and muscular coordination. Near and far vision must meet VA standards (13‑16 in close, 20/20 one‑eye, use of both eyes). Adequate hearing and clear speech are required.
- Perform all surgical procedures pertaining to Urology.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient Urology services.
- Maintain timely medical records, including computer order/entry, signing, and cosigning of notes.
- Take rotating call on a scheduled basis.
- Staff Urology Surgery clinics.
- Attend staff meetings and participate on committees as assigned.
- Provide continuing education to nursing staff.
- Support the Section Chief and Surgical Service in obtaining performance measures.
- Complete all VA mandatory and assigned education trainings.
