Job Summary /Basic Function

The Nutrition and Food Sciences Program at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#119260) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will be highly engaged in research and community service and pursue interdisciplinary collaboration with potential for external funding and contracts. We seek a candidate with a collaborative, engaged, student-centered approach to performance and responsibilities. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate nutrition and food science courses and courses in the graduate dietetics concentration. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following: a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentorship in undergraduate and graduate education;

an ability to develop effective rapport with students and colleagues; experience with the design and delivery of both online and face-to-face coursework and curricula; and evidence of a focused, productive, and fundable research program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on-site and online in area-specific and broader nutrition and food science topics.
  • Develop and maintain an active research agenda with strong potential for external funding.
  • Participate in department, college, and university service activities.
  • Engage in community partnerships that support the mission of the department and university.
  • Mentor students in a variety of professional learning experiences and projects.
  • Regularly meet with the department chair and administration.
  • Be regularly available to students during office hours.
Required Education

A terminal degree in nutrition, dietetics, food science, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.

Other Desirables

Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:

  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Experience in nutrition counseling and/or addressing community nutrition needs.
  • Experience using nutrition management software for meal planning, nutrient analysis, recipe management, food labeling, etc.
  • Evidence of understanding and use of technology in course delivery and community service.
