DescriptionProduct Design Engineer II
Murfreesboro, Tennessee
In this role, you'll develop and enhance new and existing products, ensuring they meet rigorous technical and functional standards. You'll research emerging technologies, solve complex challenges, and guide designs through feasibility, testing, and implementation. Working closely with a collaborative engineering team, you'll help deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions on schedule and make a real impact on our growing product line.
About the Role- Designs, models, and revises parts, subassemblies, and full assemblies in Solid Works, creating drawing packages that meet Barrett standards and Engineering Change Orders.
- Employs advanced simulation techniques and engineering analysis, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, to optimize design performance, reduce prototype cost and lead time, and ensure proper fits.
- Coordinates, manages, and tests prototype parts, subassemblies, complete systems, and ammunition loadings, including creating Process Sequence Sheets (PSS) and Part Validations (PV) to verify specifications.
- Works closely with internal and external suppliers to procure prototype materials, develop cost quotes and lead times, support QA inspection requirements, and maintain secure documentation for PSS, PV, test weapons, and BATF regulated items.
- Conducts competitive analysis, supports customer contract reviews, participates in research initiatives, and stays aligned with long‑distance and precision firearms industry trends through active involvement in shooting sports.
- Represents Barrett at trade shows or shooting events, collaborates across departments, helps execute the Product Development Process, and performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

- BS in Engineering required
. - MS in Engineering desired
. - Minimum of 2 years related experience in the firearms industry required
. - Experience in firearms, ammunition, and precision long‑range rifle development.
- Strong engineering foundation with modern design, simulation, and advanced manufacturing expertise.
- Deep knowledge of firearms history and complex firearm design features.
