The OSP Design Engineer is responsible for conducting fiber optic detailed network design for middle‑mile and last‑mile fiber‑based networks or Fiber to the Home projects. It requires an in‑depth understanding of fiber optic design standards and industry processes. It also requires a working knowledge of GIS/CAD design support software programs and close coordination with Field Engineering and Construction staff to support the final product.
Typical OSP design responsibilities range from the initial determination of the pathway routing and construction alternatives based on site walkouts to final detailed design generation. The OSP Design Engineer is fully responsible and accountable for the final design content and document generation to support the placement of the physical fiber infrastructure supporting Outside and Inside Plant communication facilities.
- Create high‑level preliminary route design for all categories of HLE requests and provide initial cost based on the proposed preliminary route design.
- Coordinate with the fielding team on specific site visit schedules and data gathering requirements.
- Perform detailed OSP designs, specifically adhering to United Design Standards.
- Develop, draft, and prepare all required documents to issue a fully executable project to Construction.
- Maintain expected QC grading for all design projects.
- Process revision requests, cost change approvals, and as‑built redlines for record compliance.
- Responsible for SLA compliance for areas of focus.
- Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Understanding of FTTH, Metro‑E, and FTTX Network Architecture.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a related Fielding or Construction position.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction‑related prints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Smartsheet, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to work effectively in a high‑intensity, dynamic, and rapidly changing technology environment.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and organized, with the ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively articulate complex situations to colleagues with varying degrees of network knowledge.
This is a direct‑hire, full‑time, on‑site position located at our Murfreesboro, TN, location.
