Genex Systems is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to support the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in the following location:
- Murfreesboro, TN
Position Description
The Engineering Technician provides engineering assistance working with landowners, groups, and local governments to apply and maintain a variety of conservation practices. This job also includes the responsibility of designing engineering practices, preparing engineering drawings, computing quantities, and preparing cost estimates. This position does not require an engineering degree. Duties may include:
- Inventorying and evaluating potential new project sites;
- Assisting and completing required engineering surveys for future designs;
- Assisting with the development of engineering drawings, specifications, etc.;
- Completing surveys for project construction layout;
- Conducting construction inspections during construction and reporting findings;
- Evaluating construction materials to verify that they meet or exceed specifications;
- Developing, maintaining, and completing construction project job diaries as required;
- Communicating daily, or as needed, with Engineers, Geologists, and others on construction projects for progress updates, project coordination, and potential issues;
- Tracking ongoing quantities for construction projects and notifying Engineers and others of potential quantity overruns;
- Assisting with payment processing and activities;
- Verifying that all construction projects assigned are following the required specifications and regulations.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to:
- Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D 2016, and similar technical drawing software;
- Develop and complete engineering drawings and modify standardized NRCS drawings;
- Interpret construction drawings and explain these interpretations to various stakeholders;
- Independently download survey data, produce contour maps/drawings, and analyze data;
- Use and troubleshoot various forms of surveying equipment;
- Work with SharePoint sites and other computer systems;
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations for construction projects;
- Travel as a passenger in ATVs and UTVs;
- Assist with generating, assembling, and distributing reports for various NRCS programs;
- Assist with maintenance, repairs, and inspections of motor vehicles;
- Utilize various computer hardware and software applications to develop reports and track work progress.
