Speech Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow

Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs. We’re based in Murfreesboro, TN and serve families of children ages birth through 21 years. Our team includes professionals who are trained and licensed, with a mission centered around Christ. Speech therapy clinical fellows at Special Kids collaborate with other disciplines, including occupational and physical therapy, and have access to engaging therapy materials and testing instruments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assesses language skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills and provides treatment to children with a variety of communication disorders, diagnoses, and developmental delays under supervision.
  • Programs and provides instruction on the use of AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices as applicable under supervision.
  • Coordinates participation in multi-sensory, educational, functional, and social activities designed to help patients develop or regain abilities/function or adapt to disabilities.
  • Selects constructive activities suited to the patient’s physical capacity, comprehension level, and interest to upgrade the individual to maximum independence.
  • Prepares patients for school and/or daily living, assisting in the restoration of functions, and aiding in necessary adjustments to lifestyle.
  • Instructs patients and families in treatment procedures for best carryover in multiple environments.
  • Maintains accurate and timely patient reports and documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Reviews individual files to obtain background information prior to evaluations to determine appropriate tests to administer and to ensure that all necessary information is collected under supervision.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets evaluation reports to develop and modify an individualized treatment plan under supervision.
  • Reviews treatment plans, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new goals; observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients’ responses to treatments and progress.
  • Consistently maintains high patient care productivity.
  • Maintains an awareness of the patient attendance policy, enforcing it impartially and consistently at all times.
  • Acts as a consultant to educational, medical, and other professional groups as well as fellow staff members.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to incorporate speech and language goals into daily activities.
  • Researches and implements new speech therapy techniques.
  • Refers patients for other services, whether internal or external, as warranted and appropriate.
  • Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
Requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory duties; a CF mentor will provide the necessary direct and indirect supervision for the CF per segment as defined by ASHA.

Education And/or Experience

A minimum of a master’s degree in Communication Disorders or Speech‑Language Pathology with related experience and/or training.

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web‑based applications such as electronic medical records.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Active and unencumbered Tennessee State CF‑SLP license required; AHA Basic Life Support Provider (BLS Pro) certification with CPR training required; membership in ASHA recommended; HIPAA certification encouraged.
