HGV Driver Apprenticeship Programme

As part of this apprenticeship you will work closely with our experienced HGV Drivers in order to learn and understand the role of logistics/transport in the Construction and Civil Engineering sector while undertaking the required training to obtain the relevant license classifications for lone working.

Key responsibilities
  • Understand and demonstrate the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • Comply with organisational safety, policies and procedures.
  • Safe, controlled and fuel-efficient driving techniques relating to driving the LGV, including vehicle configurations and associated safety issues, safe access and egress from vehicles and trailers to include prevention of falling from height.
  • Safe use of equipment and machinery e.g. manual handling equipment, vehicle and delivery systems, including where to find relevant instructions.
  • Guidance on vehicle preparation, including vehicle safety checks/inspections, defect reporting, safety requirements, loading, securing and unloading processes.
  • How to protect the vehicle and associated loads, including management of unlawful access to vehicle and loads.
  • Basic IT applications and other relevant technology and systems e.g. tachographs, adaptive braking, handheld scanners, on board telematics etc.
Qualifications

What qualification will I receive through the apprenticeship? As part of this apprenticeship, you will follow the Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver C+E Level 2 apprenticeship standard which takes up to 14 months to complete.

Where will I be based on the apprenticeship?

For this apprenticeship you will be based at one of our Plant depots in Ollerton or Hemel Hempstead.

What you need to be considered
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- D / 3-9(or equivalent)
  • Applicants must be 18+ with a full UK driving licence
  • You don’t need to have previous experience for the role, but you do need to be ready to learn, have a positive mindset and a can-do attitude!
  • Eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit if applicable. Please note, that we do not provide sponsorship.
