Overview

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Education faculty member with a commitment to excellence in teaching, professional activity, and service, who embraces the mission of community colleges and the needs of students at open-access institutions.

JOB OVERVIEW:
Under general supervision, the faculty member will prepare and teach lecture, hybrid, broadcast, and distance-learning Education (EDU) courses as assigned by the department. The position includes development and teaching of Education courses within the faculty member’s area of expertise. The faculty member will serve the department, school, college, and community by attending general and discipline-specific forums and meetings. Faculty are expected to serve on College and Department committees, engage with the community in multiple roles, mentor departmental adjunct faculty, and participate in professional development activities.

The faculty member will teach an average of 15 instructional units (credit hours) per semester in the Education Program. Regular full-time faculty teach day, evening, and weekend classes in accordance with guidelines. Faculty participate in advising, committee work, support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned. Much of the teaching load may include introductory courses and coordination of Concurrent Enrollment courses in local high schools.

Duties include curriculum development and periodic review of the Education Program in collaboration with other faculty. The base salary is distributed over 12 months; additional compensation may be available for teaching beyond the standard load and/or during the Summer Semester, subject to course demand (up to 23.5% of base salary).

All SLCC employees must maintain a permanent address within the State of Utah. A permanent Utah address must be recorded with Human Resources within 30 days of employment start date.

Priority Review Date: January 16, 2026. Applications received by this date will have first consideration. Applications after this date will be reviewed on a need-by-need basis until a candidate is selected for hire.

Selected finalist will be required to participate in a teaching demonstration and provide recommendation letters. SLCC HR will conduct a criminal background check and possible drug screen for the selected finalist. Official transcripts from the selected finalist are required before offering employment.

Familiarize and abide by all college policies with priority given to policies governing interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Work closely with department peers and administrators to understand processes and procedures leading to success as a contributing teacher and member of the academic unit.

Teaching Learning Environment and Student Engagement
  • Create an effective, supportive learning environment for students regardless of delivery method.
  • Promote development of critical thinking among students.
  • Incorporate active and applied learning in courses taught (hands-on and engaged activities).
  • Maintain a safe and respectful instructional environment.
  • Maintain a significant campus presence, responding to instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community.
  • Meet with students outside of class a minimum of 5 hours/week in person or online.
Course Delivery and Curriculum
  • Teach courses consistent with department procedures, the Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description.
  • Provide each student with a syllabus on the first day of class that complies with procedures and CCO.
  • Teach assigned classes during required contact hours at the scheduled time and place.
