Since 2015, Nevada Behavioral Health Systems (NBH) has been providing mental health and substance abuse services to residents across Nevada. By collaborating with a diverse network of experienced behavioral healthcare providers, we have built a community‑based care system that offers members personalized options tailored to their individual needs. In 2023, we rebranded as Novum Health with the expansion of our services in Arizona, California, and Utah.

Position: Peer Support Specialist

Location: Las Vegas, NV – Onsite (This role is not eligible for Remote or Hybrid)

Starting Salary Range: $22 per hour

What’s the role?

As a Peer Support Specialist at Novum Health, your primary purpose is to provide guidance, empathy, and support to individuals receiving mental health services. Drawing from your own lived experience with mental health challenges, you will play a vital role in helping clients navigate their recovery journey, promoting self‑advocacy, and fostering a sense of hope and resilience.

What you’ll do
  • Engage with individuals receiving mental health services, offering empathetic and nonjudgmental support.
  • Share personal experiences of recovery to inspire and connect with clients on a peer‑to‑peer level.
  • Actively listen to clients, encouraging them to express their feelings, concerns, and aspirations.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to participate in individualized recovery plans and goals.
  • Assist clients in identifying and accessing appropriate community resources and support networks.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and recovery‑focused activities, promoting a sense of community and empowerment.
  • Provide education on mental health topics, self‑care strategies, and coping skills.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and needs, helping them navigate systems and overcome barriers.
  • Document client interactions and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to enhance peer support skills.
  • Ensure members/patients are transported to appointments or other locations as necessary, using the employee’s personal vehicle (mileage is reimbursed).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring
  • Strong understanding of the recovery process and the ability to provide hope and encouragement to individuals facing mental health challenges.
  • Empathy and active listening skills to establish rapport and create a safe space for clients to share their experiences.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support networks for individuals with mental health needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and build trusting relationships.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Self‑awareness and emotional resilience to manage personal triggers and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Familiarity with evidence‑based practices and self‑care strategies for mental wellness.
  • Understanding of ethical guidelines and boundaries in peer support relationships.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong documentation and record‑keeping skills to maintain accurate client records.
What you’ll need to start
  • Lived experience with mental health challenges and a minimum of 2 years in a peer support role.
  • An active and valid Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field is a plus).
  • Must pass drug screening and background check in order to start employment with Novum Health.
  • Must have independent transportation vehicle to aid in transporting members (mileage reimbursed).
  • Must be willing to receive vaccinations in accordance with hospital and state requirements.
