Position Information

Title: Wastewater Technician I, II, or III (Full‑time)

Opening Date: 12/30/2025

Salary: $21.60–$32.77 per hour for Tech I, $23.41–$35.53 per hour for Tech II, $25.83–$39.18 per hour for Tech III (based on experience)

Department: Public Works / Wastewater

Status: Full-time

• Under the supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, performs a variety of semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance work on the city’s sanitary sewer system.
• Perform unskilled labor in general maintenance and construction using a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Assist in operating a high‑pressure jet machine, sewer rodder, and closed‑circuit TV equipment.
• Assist in locating manholes, sewer clean‑outs, and main sewer lines.
• Assist in setting up flow and strength measuring devices.
• Assist in maintaining pump stations and grounds.
• Comply with all Murray City safety rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Six months of construction/laborer experience.
• Ability to obtain a Utah Commercial Driver License within six months of appointment.
• Ability to obtain a Utah Wastewater Collections System Operator, Grade I Certificate within six months of appointment.
• Ability to obtain Flag Person Certification within six months of appointment.
• General availability and ability to respond to emergency call‑outs at any time of day, year‑round, regardless of weather conditions.

• Two years of experience as a Wastewater Technician I, or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
• Utah Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement.
• Grade II State Certified “Wastewater Collections System” operator.
• Successfully pass a written and practical operations test specific to Murray City’s Wastewater Department.
• Traffic Control Technician Certification (TCT).
• Certified Flag Person.
• Perform duties on trouble truck and be generally available to respond within 30 minutes to emergency call‑outs.

• Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years experience as a Wastewater Technician II in Murray City, or five years construction experience with at least one year experience as an Equipment Operator, or equivalent combination of education and construction experience.
• Valid Utah Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement.
• Grade III State Certified “Wastewater Collections System” operator.
• Successfully pass a written and practical operations test specific to Murray City Sewer Department.
• Familiar with telemetering equipment and SCADA equipment.
• Traffic Control Technician certification (TCT).
• Certified Pesticide Applicator license.
• Certified Flag Person.
• Perform duties on trouble truck and be generally available to respond within 30 minutes to emergency call‑outs.
