Technical Lead — Web, App & AI Infrastructure

We run our own stack rather than renting it. A React front end with tens of thousands of programmatically generated pages, a Node quoting API, an iOS ARKit app that measures an opening from a phone, and a multi-GPU node running the language models behind the site chat and the internal sales assistant.
That is a real amount of surface for one person, which is the honest framing of this role: you are not joining a platform team, you are becoming one. The upside is that nothing is stuck behind someone else's roadmap.
A significant part of the job is data. The measurement app produces capture sidecars - points, world coordinates, camera intrinsics and transforms, depth, bounding boxes - and turning that into training sets that actually improve the model is work nobody here currently has time to do properly.
Pay$45-$95/hr hourly, invoiced weekly. Defined pieces of work can be quoted as fixed-price milestones instead.
What you will own- Own the website end to end:
React/Type Script front end, Node API, build, prerender and deploy - Ship improvements to the iOS measurement and quoting app (Swift/SwiftUI, ARKit)
- Run and monitor the self-hosted model stack - serving, quantization choices, latency and capacity
- Design, clean and prepare training datasets from field captures for the measurement pipeline
- Keep the hardware healthy: the GPU node, storage and the services around them
- Keep performance and indexing honest - this site lives on organic search, and a regression in either is a revenue problem
- Decide what we build versus what we buy, and say plainly when buying is the right answer
- Strong Type Script and React, and enough Node to own an API in production
- Comfortable with Docker, Linux and a reverse proxy - you will be deploying this yourself
- Practical experience running or fine-tuning models, or preparing datasets for training
- Can work without a spec and will tell us when the thing we asked for is the wrong thing
- Right to work in the United States
- 1099 independent contractor engagement, not employment
- Hourly, or fixed-price milestones for well-defined work
- No daily hour cap. Weekly invoice, paid bi-weekly
- Remote, with occasional time on site
- Days 1-30:
Get the whole stack running locally, deploy something small yourself, and take over the release process. - Days 31-60:
Find and fix the highest-cost piece of technical debt, and show what it was costing. - Days 61-90:
Own the measurement dataset pipeline end to end, and bring a measurable accuracy result to the 90-day review.
Every hire, in every role, starts with a written 60-month plan built with you in your first weeks. It has three lines - personal, professional and financial - and it is what the regular PPF meetings review. You start as the whole platform team. As it needs more people, you are the one who shapes and leads it.
