Overview

Job purpose:

To lead the day-to-day activities of the general ledger accounting for ADC, including controlling and organizing staff, maintaining the GL master and trial balances, accounting and reconciliation of accruals, and related activities. Ensure reporting is on time and highly accurate in accordance with accounting standards, ADC's accounting policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and other relevant accounting principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Subordinates supervision
    :
    Organise and supervise the activities and work of subordinates to ensure all general ledger accounting work is carried out efficiently and in line with operating policies and procedures. Provide on-the-job training and constructive feedback to support subordinate development.
  • Accounting – General Ledger
    :
    Control all general ledger accounts including GL master, trial balances, foreign currency position, inter-accounts, GL rejected transactions, and work in progress to ensure debits and credits balance. Monitor opening, closing, and reconciliation of GL accounts to verify accuracy and completeness. Ensure entries are posted to the correct accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
  • GL Structure & Reporting
    :
    Plan and maintain ADC's DDC General Ledger structure to display financial information and current balances in key functions.
  • Compliance
    :
    Ensure compliance with local taxation law and regulations.
  • Accounting System
    :
    Oversee and manage the Computerized Accounting System's opening and closing periods to ensure transactions are recorded timely, accurately, and per established standards.
  • Financial Reporting
    :
    Manage and review the preparation of periodic ledger accounting and ensure financial accounting transactions are accurately reflected in the books in accordance with accounting standards, ADC policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and other relevant principles.
  • Reconciliation
    :
    Lead the development and review of financial statements, management accounts, balance sheet reconciliation, including bank reconciliations and audit schedules related to GL, to ensure timely matching and updated general ledger. Prepare draft financial statements for ADC as standalone and consolidated. Identify and address gaps in bank statement reconciliations.
  • Collaboration
    :
    Liaise with internal and external auditors regarding reconciliation and GL compliance to ensure timely implementation of audit recommendations. Coordinate payroll reconciliations with Payroll Officer and HR. Collaborate with AR, AP, Treasury, and Fixed Assets section Heads for reconciliation to ensure complete and accurate reporting.
  • Continuous Improvement
    :
    Motivate subordinates and identify opportunities for process improvement in systems, processes, and practices, aligning with leading practices and productivity gains.
  • Policies, Systems & Procedures
    :
    Implement approved finance department policies, processes, and procedures; provide instructions to subordinates and monitor adherence to ensure controlled work.
  • Quality, Health, Safety & Environment
    :
    Ensure compliance with relevant QHSE procedures and controls in all GL accounting activities to guarantee safety, compliance, high-quality work, and responsible environmental practices.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Minimum Qualifications
    :
    Bachelor’s degree in commerce/accounting or equivalent, with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., CA/ACCA).
  • Minimum Experience
    : 6 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Skills & Knowledge
    :
    Knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures and fiscal management. Understanding of internal control structures and systems. Knowledge of computerized accounting packages and their integration with other systems. Ability to interpret, apply, and explain complex laws, codes, regulations, and standards. Analytical thinking, attention to detail.
