Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence
Purpose of the Position
Muscat University seeks to expand its Faculty of Transport & Logistics by appointing a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence. Applications are welcome from candidates with experience teaching and research across a range of disciplines including, but not limited to artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, AI applications in logistics and supply chain, and intelligent transportation systems. With an ethos of providing an exceptional student experience, the post holder will work with the Faculty Director to ensure efficient and effective delivery of modules.
He/She will be responsible for teaching modules such as Artificial Intelligence in Logistics, Machine Learning for Supply Chain, Data Analysis for Logistics, Supply Chain Decision Support and Analysis, AI-Driven Transportation Systems, and Predictive Analytics in Freight Management. He/She will be responsible for ensuring that curriculum management and enhancement activities comply with the standards set by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA).
In addition to teaching, the post holder will contribute to supervising UG final-year projects, PG dissertations, AI and machine learning competitions, and research‑related activities. To be appointed to the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate must hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, data science, AI applications in logistics and supply chain, or a closely related field. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Higher Education (HE) teaching is required.

- Deliver high-quality teaching experience for the undergraduate and graduate Transport and Logistics Management programs with a focus on AI, machine learning, and data‑driven tools.
- Construct, plan, and assess student assignments.
- Liaise with the Faculty Dean on all student matters, including timetabling, academic, and technical support.
- Undertake the role of Academic Advisor / Personal Tutor.
- Undertake research and scholarly activity with a view to publishing in quality international academic journals.
- Engage with external maritime and logistics bodies and industry to enrich the student experience, including visiting students on industrial placements.
- Engage with the external community and stakeholders to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda.
- Participate in university meetings and events, including Board of Examiners, Programme Reviews, Planning and Monitoring Committees, and Staff Student Liaison.
- Maintain flexible working patterns which may include some evening and weekend work in support of Programme Faculty University business.
- Actively engage with businesses, professional bodies, port authorities, and shipping companies to organize student outreach and invite industry speakers to enhance student experience.

- Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, or a closely related area for the Lecturer rank.
- PhD or equivalent in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
- Professional qualifications and/or memberships in recognized AI or computing bodies for the Assistant Professor rank.
- Ability to communicate with clarity on complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and to peers using high‑level skills and a range of media.
- Ability to think critically and promote innovation and creativity.
- Demonstrated competencies core behaviours and supplementary behaviours that support and promote the university’s core values.
- Committed to ensuring a high‑quality student experience.
- One to two years of experience teaching modules in Sustainable Shipping, Maritime Transport, or a closely related field in Higher Education.
- Experience in the Omani and GCC HE environments.
- Strong links to the maritime and sustainability industry.
- Academic accreditation or quality assurance experience.
- Experience with sustainability frameworks such as the IMO 2050 strategy or GHG reduction targets.
