The PersonThis role combines leadership of the school’s swimming provision with delivery of both curriculum and academy programmes. The Swim Leader will be responsible for daily teaching across the PE curriculum for pupils aged 3–18, while also leading, running, teaching and growing the Cheltenham Muscat Swimming Academy for both school students and the wider community, including children and adults.
Reporting to the Head of PE at Cheltenham Muscat, with a dotted line to the Head of Curriculum Swimming at Enrich Me, the Cognita Middle East enrichment partner, the Swim Leader will drive the development of swimming across the school and academy. This includes managing and mentoring instructors, ensuring all lessons meet Swim England standards, and working closely with the PE team, parents, and the Enrich Me Aquatics Leadership Team to maintain a consistent, high‑quality experience.
A core focus of the role is to increase participation and build clear progression pathways. The you will expand the academy offering for the wider community, grow enrolment, and ensure swimmers of all ages and abilities are supported to improve. Within the school, you will develop young swimmers with the skills and confidence to progress into squad‑level training and competition.
Teaching and DeliveryDeliver high‑quality curriculum and academy swimming lessons to children at various stages of development, ensuring all lessons are engaging, safe and educational.
Follow and implement the Swim England programme to guarantee the development of swimmers’ skills and technique.
Ensure that all lessons are aligned with Cheltenham Muscat and Cognita ENRICH ME Aquatics’ overall mission, objectives and scheme of work.
Lead and manage a team of swimming teachers, ensuring that all staff are delivering lessons to the highest standard.
Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the swim site.
Provide support and mentorship to other staff members, offering feedback and guidance to help them develop professionally.
Foster a positive and motivating environment for both staff and swimmers, promoting teamwork and high standards.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with school staff, parents, and the local school community to enhance communication and collaboration.
Ensure that feedback about swimmers’ progress is regularly communicated to parents and school staff.
Act as the main point of contact for the school/site and effectively manage all communication related to swimming lessons.
Take responsibility for growing and developing the curriculum and academy swimming programme, aiming to increase participation and build a pipeline of swimmers for the squad programme.
Collaborate with the P.E. team and Academy Manager to plan and implement strategies for site growth and improvement.
Attend school and community events to engage with the wider community.
Ensure that all lessons and activities are delivered in line with Cheltenham Muscat and Cognita ENRICH ME Aquatics’ policies and procedures.
Be accountable for maintaining high standards of teaching, safety and swimmer progression at your site.
Support in regular quality assurance checks and audits, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
