Position Title:
Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity
Reports to:
Dean – Faculty of Engineering and Technology. This is a predominantly teaching-focused position to manage and support delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, foundation, and executive programs. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative experience.
- Deliver modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. The normal teaching load is 3–4 modules per semester (two semesters per academic year).
- Oversee undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations, ensuring students receive guidance on their research methodologies and outcomes.
- Initiate and develop research collaborations, write national and international research grant applications to enhance university funding and research capabilities.
- Contribute significantly to the design and development of new academic programs and curriculum.
- Participate in scholarly research activities that lead to publications in peer‑reviewed, indexed, and ranked international journals and conferences in the field.
- Maintain high-quality teaching experience in foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and executive laboratory programs, ensuring content, material and assessment are coherent and relevant.
- Engage with students and demonstrators during laboratory sessions to ensure a high level of understanding is achieved.
- Ensure learning experiences comply with standards of the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA).
- Monitor student voice through meetings, surveys and reviews, liaising with the Faculty Dean to address findings.
- Formulate and coordinate final year projects and theses, including liaising with industry where necessary.
- Attend open days, external events and interviews as required to support recruitment activities.
- Organise student outreach, invite industry speakers and facilitate industrial placement opportunities.
- Prepare and participate in university committees and meetings such as Boards of Examiners, Programme Reviews, Planning and Monitoring committees, Student Staff Liaison and policy development.
- Monitor student attendance and performance to support attainment, success and progression.
- PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field from an internationally recognized university.
- Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in cybersecurity-related courses, with a proven ability to supervise student research projects.
- Active research engagement in cybersecurity and digital forensics, with a record of scholarly publications.
- Professional certifications such as GIAC (e.g., Certified Incident Handler, Penetration Tester), CISSP, CEH, CISM, or equivalent are preferred.
- Industry experience that complements academic qualifications is a plus.
- Strong practical computing skills relevant to the specialized areas of cybersecurity.
- Evidence of community participation in university, professional, and local initiatives related to cybersecurity and digital forensics.
- Cybersecurity fundamentals, network and system security, ethical hacking, penetration testing, digital forensics, malware analysis, incident response, secure software and application security, cloud and IoT security, cryptography, cyber risk management.
