Protection Engineer (Transmission & Distribution)

Oman
Overview
The position focuses on reviewing protection designs, relay settings, and system logic while supporting coordination, testing, and approval processes across transmission and distribution projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review Current Transformer (CT) and Voltage Transformer (VT) design requirements and sizing calculations in line with approved Single Line Diagrams
- Review Protection & Metering Diagrams (PMD) to ensure compliance with applicable standards and protection philosophy
- Review Block Logic Diagrams (BLD) to confirm alignment with approved protection schemes
- Verify relay lists against required documentation and standards
- Coordinate with Control & Relay Panel (CRP) builders and review scheme drawings
- Review relay setting calculations for accuracy and compliance
- Represent the client during protection testing activities and witness testing execution
- Coordinate with protection teams and stakeholders to obtain approvals and support testing
- Ensure protection system designs support safe and reliable operation of transmission and distribution networks
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in protection engineering
- Level 3 Protection authorization IS A MUST
Technical Profile
- Strong expertise in protection system design review and relay coordination
- Hands-on experience with relay setting calculations and validation
- Solid understanding of CTs, VTs, and electrical protection principles
- Proficiency in reviewing SLDs, PMDs, BLDs, and CRP scheme drawings
- Familiarity with transmission and distribution systems and grid protection requirements
- Strong knowledge of OETC standards and protection philosophies
- Experience in approval coordination and protection testing within utility environments
Soft Skills
- Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills
- High attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Effective communication across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage approvals and work within structured processes
