We are seeking a precise and detail-oriented Optical Technician to join our team. This role focuses on the technical aspects of eyewear, including the accurate fabrication, measurement, and adjustment of lenses and frames. You will ensure that every patient receives eyewear that meets the highest standards of optical clarity and comfort, serving as the technical support system within our optical shop.
Key Responsibilities Lens Fitting & Technical Duties- Prescription Interpretation:
Accurately read and interpret prescriptions provided by optometrists and ophthalmologists. - Optical Measurements:
Perform precise facial measurements, including pupillary distance (PD) and segment height, to ensure exact optical center alignment for visual correction. - Lens Assembly & Fitting:
Cut, edge, and mount lenses into various frame materials using optical lab equipment and hand tools. - Adjustments & Repairs:
Heat, shape, and adjust frame components to provide a secure and comfortable fit for the patient; perform maintenance, including replacing nose pads and screws. - Quality Control:
Conduct rigorous inspections of finished eyewear to verify optical clarity, lens power, and frame alignment prior to dispensing to the patient.
- Technical Knowhow:
Understands the technical benefits of specific lens designs (e.g., progressive, bifocal, high-index) and protective treatments (e.g., anti-reflective, UV, blue light filters) in the context of patient eye health. - Fit Verification:
Ensure eyewear is positioned correctly on the patient’s face, verifying that all adjustments meet comfort and clinical standards. - Clinical Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of patient eyewear specifications and measurements in compliance with practice policies.
- Inventory Management:
Monitor stock levels of frames and lens blanks; manage the reordering process to ensure essential supplies are always available. - Equipment Maintenance:
Regularly calibrate and maintain in-house edging, blocking, and measuring tools to ensure consistent precision. - Workplace Organization:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in both the lab and the fitting area.
- Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in an optical retail setting or ophthalmic lab. - Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with a lensometer, digital edger, and frame-adjusting tools. - Clinical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of optical physics, frame anatomy, and lens materials. - Attention to Detail:
Exceptional precision when working with measurements, numbers, and delicate equipment. - Communication:
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and patiently to patients.
