Position Overview The IT Officer will be responsible for the full range of the school's information technology needs — hardware, software, network, security systems, and day-to-day technical support for staff and students.
The role requires a hands-on, reliable, and proactive individual comfortable working independently in a school environment.
Hardware Management- Maintain and troubleshoot all school laptops, desktops, and tablets (staff and student devices)
- Manage and maintain printers, scanners, and photocopiers (including toner/consumables tracking and vendor coordination for repairs)
- Maintain projectors, smart boards, and classroom AV/display equipment
- Manage CCTV cameras: installation, maintenance, footage storage, retention, and retrieval when needed
- Maintain networking hardware: routers, switches, access points, and cabling
- Maintain servers and any on-site IT storage/backup systems
- Keep an up-to-date inventory/asset register of all IT equipment, including who each device is assigned to and its service history
- Track warranties and coordinate repairs or replacements with vendors
- Install, update, and maintain software across all school devices
- Manage antivirus, firewall, and other cybersecurity tools
- Manage the school management system / student information system (SIS)
- Manage learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom, Microsoft 365) and classroom apps
- Track software licenses and renewal dates (Microsoft, antivirus, exam software, etc.)
- Create and manage staff and student user accounts, email addresses, and password resets
- Apply content filtering and safeguarding controls for student internet access
- Ensure reliable Wi-Fi and internet connectivity across the school
- Monitor network performance and resolve connectivity issues
- Liaise with internet service providers when needed
- Maintain regular data backups and have a basic disaster recovery plan in place
- Provide day-to-day IT helpdesk support to staff and students
- Respond to IT issues within an agreed response time (to be defined, e.g., same-day for urgent issues)
- Provide basic training to staff on new tools, systems, or devices
- Support teachers with classroom technology during lessons when needed
- Recommend new equipment or upgrades based on school needs and budget
- Source quotes and coordinate purchases of IT equipment with management
- Provide a periodic (e.g., monthly) report to management on IT status, issues, and recommendations
- Proven experience in an IT support or IT administrator role (school experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of networks, hardware troubleshooting, and common school software systems
- Good communication skills and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical staff
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple tasks
- Provide additional IT support during exam periods, including online/computer-based testing platforms.
- Ensure exam-related systems and devices are tested and ready in advance
- Available to join immediately
Salary budget is 500-600 OMR per month + benefits
