General Manager, Technology Strategy and Innovation

Role Purpose

To lead Omantel’s technology strategy with a focus on future technologies, deep tech innovation, and digital infrastructure evolution, driving R&D, early-stage product development, and scalable go-to-market pathways while ensuring alignment across Omantel, subsidiaries, and group-level ecosystems.

• Minimum role requirements:
• Bachelor in relevant discipline
• 8-10 years of relevant experience with at least 15+ years of total work
• Proven experience of having worked with global technology companies and hyper scalers is key

• Future Technology & Digital Infrastructure Strategy
• Define Omantel’s long-term technology strategy centered on future tech, deep tech, and next-generation digital infrastructure
• Shape evolution across network, cloud, platforms, AI, and emerging digital ecosystems
• Align technology direction with corporate strategy, growth ambitions, and market positioning
• R&D Strategy, Governance & Innovation Engine
• Establish and govern Omantel’s R&D framework, operating model, and innovation lifecycle
• Lead structured research programs including whitepapers, technology assessments, and deep-dive studies
• Drive POC (Proof of Concept) development and experimentation pipelines to validate emerging technologies
• Embed a strong R&D culture integrating innovation labs, technology teams, and external partners
• Product development with a commercial sensibility is one of the core objective
• Commercial viability of products developed
• Developing 3-5 year commercial adoption plans for new technology or growth sectors
• Technology-Led Product Development & Early GTM
• Translate R&D outputs and emerging technologies into technology-enabled products and platforms
• Support early-stage productization, pilot launches, and market validation (early GTM)
• Collaborate with Commercial, Digital Growth, and Innovation teams to scale validated solutions
• Ensure technology capabilities are monetized into scalable offerings
• Technology Portfolio & Roadmap Governance
• Define and govern technology roadmaps across network, platforms, and digital capabilities
• Ensure alignment between R&D outputs, product development, and long-term architecture evolution
• Balance investment across innovation, infrastructure, and commercial enablement
• Ecosystem & Group Synergy Enablement
• Drive alignment and collaboration with subsidiaries, associate companies, and Zain Group on technology strategy
• Identify opportunities for shared platforms, joint innovation, and cross-entity scaling
• Enable knowledge exchange, co-investment opportunities, and technology standardization across the ecosystem
• Strategic Technology Partnerships & Co-Innovation
• Establish and manage partnerships with technology providers, startups, research institutions, and innovation hubs
• Drive co-innovation models and joint development initiatives
• Leverage partnerships to accelerate R&D, product development, and market entry
• Technology Investment & Commercial Alignment
• Provide strategic input on technology investments linked to growth sectors and future revenue streams
• Ensure alignment between technology bets, commercial priorities, and business cases
• Support evaluation of large-scale transformation and innovation initiatives
• Targeted Technology Intelligence & Growth Sector Insights
• Focus on growth sectors, monetizable opportunities, and strategic technology domains rather than broad trend scanning
• Provide actionable insights on where Omantel should invest, build, or partner
• Support leadership with forward-looking views on technology-enabled growth opportunities
• Executive Advisory & Strategic Positioning
• Act as the primary advisor to CSIO and executive leadership on future technology positioning and innovation pathways
• Support Board and executive discussions with structured insights, scenarios, and strategic options
• Shape Omantel’s positioning as a technology leader and digital ecosystem player
