We are seeking an Industrial Network Commissioning Engineer to provide onsite commissioning, technical support, and troubleshooting for a redundant industrial Ethernet network serving a site-wide electrical control system. The network will be commissioned according to an existing design, with remote technical support available throughout the assignment.
Job Title: Industrial Network Commissioning Engineer
Location: Oman Oil Field - air transport from Muscat to the site provided
Duration: 12 working days, plus 3 days for travel and medical requirements
Contingency: Availability for up to 4 additional working days
Start Date: Mid-September, or as early as possible
Responsibilities- Commission and troubleshoot a redundant industrial Ethernet network supporting a site-wide electrical control system.
- Install, configure, and commission Hirschmann industrial network switches.
- Perform firmware updates, configuration management, backups, and validation.
- Test and troubleshoot network redundancy configurations with remote technical support.
- Diagnose connectivity, performance, and communication issues across the industrial network.
- Support optical fibre installation, testing, and fault-finding activities.
- Interpret existing network diagrams and ensure the commissioned system complies with the approved design.
- Support the integration and troubleshooting of IEDs, protection relays, and other electrical control system devices where required.
- Document configurations, test results, identified issues, and completed commissioning activities.
- Strong understanding of industrial Ethernet networks, supported by practical installation and commissioning experience.
- Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and commissioning Hirschmann network switches.
- Experience performing firmware upgrades and managing network device configurations.
- Experience troubleshooting redundant network architectures and configurations.
- General experience with optical fibre installations and industrial network fault-finding.
- Ability to interpret network architecture drawings and technical diagrams.
- Experience with IEDs, protection relays, or networks supporting electrical control systems is preferred but not essential.
- Ability and willingness to work in a desert oil-field environment, primarily within substations.
- Good written and spoken English.
- CCNA, CCNP, or an equivalent networking certification is desirable but not compulsory.
- No mandatory certifications are required.
- The required health check will be arranged and provided by the client.
