Deputy Sheriff (Full‑Time) – Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office
The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office will be testing on multiple dates to fill open positions of Deputy Sheriff and maintain a hiring list. The position is full time and includes county health benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave. Beginning salary is $29.91 per hour for an uncertified officer (additional if certified, depending on experience). Job offers will be contingent upon passing a background check, which may include drug testing and polygraph.
The Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office has revised its residency area to include the bordering counties of Scott, Cedar, Johnson, and Louisa.
Testing will be held on the following dates:
- Saturday, April 5, 2025
- Saturday, July 12, 2025
- Saturday, October 11, 2025
- Saturday, January 10, 2026
Physical testing sign‑in will begin at 9:45 A.M., with test beginning at 10:00 A.M. (Iowa certified officers are exempt from both physical and written testing. Certified officers may have to acquire their most recent POST exam score). Written test will begin at 12:00 P.M. Late arrivals will not be allowed entry. The location of testing will be announced after the Final date to receive applications for each testing date.

Completed applications must be returned to the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, 400 Walnut St., Muscatine, IA 52761, Attn.:
Sergeant Jacob McCleary. Incomplete or illegible applications will not be accepted.
Applications shall be submitted by 4:00 P.M. on the following dates:
- March 19, 2025 – for the April 5, 2025 test
- June 25, 2025 – for the July 12, 2025 test
- September 24, 2025 – for the October 11, 2025 test
- December 17, 2025 – for the January 10, 2026 test
