The Grounds Maintenance Specialist may be required on occasion to assist with general maintenance work.
* Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including high heat, cold, rain, snow, and/or high winds.
* Work involves frequent bending, stooping, kneeling; prolonged walking or standing; lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and occasional climbing and working from ladders and lifting devices.
* Performs regular and directed grounds and landscape maintenance by mowing grass with riding or push mowers; trimming and edging around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks and buildings; weeding, thinning and cleaning flower beds and other grounds by hand or utilizing power tools and equipment.
* Responsible for landscaping tasks such as planting bushes, shrubs, and trees, mulching, weeding, and applying chemicals to outside plantings, lawns, and turf.
* Ensures proper care and appearance of campus entrance areas and/or event spaces.
* Mixes and applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in compliance with safety regulations.
* Maintains records of fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicide applications.
* Monitors weather to plan appropriate maintenance schedules.
* Assists in planning and designing landscape areas, including plant selection, layout, and off-season projects to maintain campus aesthetics year-round.
* Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain specialized equipment such as mowers, tractors, fork lifts, front end loaders, lawn equipment, and pickup trucks.
* Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds; raking, sweeping and bagging leaves, debris, and dirt from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and transporting to designated area.
* May be required at times to perform the duties of a general maintenance worker as required by the administration to meet the needs of the College.
* Records and maintains accurate records of time, invoices, and materials.
* Observes safety regulations, uniform code, and all College policies.
* Makes recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor regarding budget, safety, planning, etc., as it relates to specific responsibilities.
* Cleans and maintains equipment; reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
* Provides work direction and training to student workers.
* Presents update of activities at department meetings.
* Attend all job-related training programs.
* Serve on committees as assigned.
* High School Diploma or GED, required.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, or related maintenance field, required.
* Graduate of a technical program, preferred.
* Experience in lawn care duties, preferred.

SALARY:
Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System's Salary Schedule E3 ($39,759 - $62,710).
