Muskegon Community College

Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate‑degree–granting institution of higher education and an applied‑technology leader for high‑tech, hands‑on training. With robust student‑success support, free tutoring, 18 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full‑time enrolled student body of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.

The college’s transfer‑out rate is the highest in Michigan, seven percentage points above the state average, and MCC is nationally recognized for its liberal‑arts and occupational programs. MCC’s annual operating budget is $44 million and it employs about 210 regular full‑time and part‑time staff, along with many adjunct faculty and student assistants.

General Description

Perform clerical duties and assistance for the department (DSS and Jayhawk Hub within Student Success) to maintain a professional, well‑organized and friendly environment among students, faculty, staff and visitors. Duties include clerical, receptionist, scheduling, and other assignments relative to efficient operations of department and/or college.

FULL TIME: 40 hours / 52 weeks

PAY: $17.91 - $19.57 per hour, depending on experience

COLLEGE

HOURS:

Monday 8 AM – 6:30 PM, Tuesday‑Thursday 8 AM – 5:30 PM, Friday 8 AM – 12 PM. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required (variation agreed upon with supervisor).

Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or 3 years’ experience
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to people of all ages, races, and social‑economic backgrounds
  • Proficient in office technology, software, & equipment; able to be the “go to” person for all equipment and software
  • Willingness to upgrade skills, including technology or process changes
  • Effective working relationships with students, staff, and outside persons
  • Organizational ability, attention to detail, and solid decision‑making skills
  • Use of tact, judgment and discretion; maintain confidentiality when working with students, faculty, staff, and others

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing, keyboarding, lifting/sorting/stocking the pantry, speaking in English via phone or in person
Essential Functions
  • Serve as receptionist for Jayhawk Hub and Disability Support Services; answer routine questions via phone or in person and route calls to appropriate people; provide directions to other rooms or offices
  • Maintain inventory for student pantry and keep track of usage; unload, organize, restock consistently
  • Triage requests to screen for assistance needed by callers/visitors; assist with check‑in process for Jayhawk Hub, Disability Support application, MCC application, FAFSA, and other basic financial aid questions, navigating community resources, etc.
  • Resolve or assist with resolution of complaints or concerns using appropriate tact, judgment, listening skills, and problem‑solving ability to avoid escalation when possible
  • Administrator for departmental scheduling system(s)/software; ensure all meetings and appointments are accounted for, including all student appointments and walk‑in times
  • Obtain student records and prepare team’s daily agendas; update student records in Colleague
  • Type all correspondence for the department staff and/or others assigned; prepare bulk mailings, including new student letters…
