Job Overview

Muskegon Community College is seeking to hire Continuing Education Instructors. The main purpose of this position is to teach non-credit classes offered by the college’s Continuing Education (CE). Courses will vary based on participant demand—currently popular topics include art (painting, pottery/ceramics, drawing, etc.), language (Spanish, American Sign Language, German), fitness (yoga, pilates, tai-chi), creative writing, and culinary arts.

CE instructors are not covered by the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities

The instructor will create a proposal for a class that is appropriate as a continuing education topic, including curriculum, length of the class, learning outcomes, and organization of class materials. The incumbent will work with CE staff to secure dates, times, and locations for class offerings and will be expected to prepare, teach, and assess student satisfaction with the class. The instructor will report to the Continuing Education Coordinator in the Workforce Development department.

Functions
  • Researching and building a class appropriate for continuing education.
  • Completing and submitting the Course Proposal Form.
  • Identify and determine.
  • Using MCC protocols and procedures, create an appropriate curriculum for a class.
  • Curriculum development will include clear outcomes and instruction hours.
  • In coordination with the CE Program Coordinator, determine class location, classroom size needed, and identify resources necessary to run the class and any out-of-pocket expenses for students.
  • Prepare the classroom for teaching.
  • Assess student satisfaction with the class.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • (Proven) (Documented) Expertise in the topic area, either through experience or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience.
  • Associate Degree (or higher).
