Base Pay Range$80.00/yr - $85.00/yr

Tool Design Engineer
Responsibilities- Design tools and dies accurately and efficiently, within specified time frames, to company engineering specifications.
- Create a bill of materials for all designs with recommended spare tooling and ware items.
- Manage engineering CAD files in an organized and comprehensible format.
- Create and update detailed drawings required for manufacturing using the company’s CAD system.
- Attend design review meetings as needed – determine customer requirements, production issues & timing considerations.
- Produce drawings for customers and production personnel.
- Work with Engineering department to develop the conceptual, preliminary, and detail design.
- Draw preliminary sketches of dies for review.
- Prepare strip layouts and detailed drawings making certain the design meets the customer piece part and die or machine specifications, taking into consideration how the job was quoted.
- Select items per company standards to incorporate into the project and ensure job materials and components are ordered in a timely manner.
- Check, document and communicate the progress of jobs as they are being built.
- Aid trainees in tool design.
- Prototype blank design and fixture design as required.
- Work according to SCHERDEL’s quality and environmental system requirements, and customer quality requirements.
- Education/Experience
:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred);
Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or CAD design, or equivalent years of experience. - Skills
:
Training through an accredited program and experience in tool and die design/engineering; computer literacy with a solid knowledge of operating systems and related software (Windows, MS Office, Lotus Notes); extensive knowledge of CAD systems, Siemens NX and Solid Works; ability to read and understand specifications, blueprints/drawings and other technical data; 3D modeling experience required; ability to understand and implement geometric tolerance;
willingness to travel outside the USA for training purposes (Germany & Mexico). - Competencies
:
Time management, results-driven, problem solver, thoroughness, communication, personal effectiveness/credibility.
- Ability to bend, twist and stand for periods up to 8–12 hours.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs if required.
- Ability to work repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel may be required.
- Daily use of technologies including prolonged use of computers and keyboards.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Tool/Die/Mold Repair Skills.
- Tool/Die/Mold Setup Experience.
